It has been a rather drastic change with regard to the lounge situations over here in Bangkok. This affects mainly contract lounges, but I have also heard that some airline lounges are being affected. Basically, the airport authority is coming up with new regulations that protect their local lounges. Others are not allowed to offer access, it is paid for or via lounge programs. This left Miracle and Coral as the only contract lounges left over here. I certainly miss those massages at the Turkish Lounge and the champagne at the Oman Lounge. I am not a fan of these Miracle lounges and have visited them previously. I figure that it is worth sharing about it since it is our main lounge to visit over here.
Access Requirements
The Miracle First Class Lounge over in the D gates is open 24 hours a day. You can access this lounge through a lounge program membership, such as Priority Pass. I have an unlimited Priority Pass through my UOB Reserve Card or my Citi Prestige Credit Card, which provides me with 12 yearly visits. I access the lounge primarily using these two cards. A standard entrance will cost 35USD. Typical guest entitlements follow. The lounge landscape has changed in BKK recently; it used to be one of the best airports for lounge hopping with tons of options, but now all of the good ones have ceased to be offered on lounge programs. This seems to be a new regulation by the Thai Aviation Authorities. Gone are the likes of Air France, Turkish and Oman Lounges. Only local operators like this Miracle Lounge are allowed to offer passengers paid lounge access.
Arrival & Location
I went to the one over near my gate since they are more or less the same. The Miracle First Class Lounge and the Business Class Lounge are almost side by side. Is there no point in going to business class then? The lounge is opposite gate D6, and I was departing from D7. That is easy enough. It does look pretty nice from the outside, with a gorgeous entrance. Modern, new and luxurious. I was welcomed in after scanning my Priority Pass card. Let’s see if it is first class.
Miracle First Class Lounge
The lounge is separated into two main areas. To the left is the lounging area, and to the right is the dining area. Let me first share about the seating in the dining area. Here you can find typical lounge couches arranged in groups. Power outlets are available, and there is also Wi-Fi provided.
Heading on it, it is mainly filled with dining tables and some high-top seating. This is closer to the refreshment area.
Moving back to the lounging area, which is on the left of the entrance. It is the nicer of the two areas. Here, there are couches arranged in groups. There are seats both in the middle and on the sides. I love that they are arranged into different areas to make it more exclusive. This is, technically speaking, the nicer area of the two. I love that they have a drinks and snacks counter over here, too. It includes both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. This makes it convenient if you need a refill or something.
Toilets and showers
Surprisingly, the toilet and showers are in individual rooms over here. I do see a staff member going around to maintain it. They have two showers for each gender here. It is simple but gets the work done if you do require one.
Food and Drinks
The bulk of the food and drink options are over in the dining area on the right. You can find dining tables here that are mainly suitable for dining. With that being said, you can dine anywhere throughout the lounge. There are also drinks and food spots in the lounging area. There are some cooked dishes located on the buffet line which look decent enough. Sadly, the taste is pretty unmemorable. I tried some of the curries and stir-fried minced pork. It doesn’t taste good.
You can also find a salad station and a live station offering some wanton soup and chicken rice. I tried some of this and it was so bad!!! Just skip it! They are wasteful calories!
The drinks aspect is much better, and it comes with a healthy selection of canned drinks, including premium ones like Schweppes. They also have both sparkling and still mineral water, which is awesome. For alcohol, they have four different types of beers, wines and a good selection of spirits.
Conclusion
Bangkok Airport is still one where a lounge will come in handy! It is still one airport that you want to be early for, rather than cutting it close to the edge. The traffic and crowd are unpredictable. As such, you will want to spend extra time waiting for your flight at the lounge. No matter what, this is still nicer than the general terminal area. Furthermore, you can avoid pricey drink options. I really can’t comprehend the new regulations, which seem unfair! I hope those lovely lounges can soon rejoin the Priority Pass network.
