From Train Station to the City

Lucca Train Station is located just outside of the city walls. From Florence you should be able to get direct trains into Lucca. Within the city walls, most of them walk or ride bicycles.

Attractions

Piazza Napoleone

This is the largest square in Lucca, it also contains the large Palazzo Ducale, now being used as a government building. The 1500s Ducal Palace can also be found here too. The square is pretty with the trees lining up and also the building. It is packed with restaurants and cafes and in the summer there would also be concerts.

City Walls

The ancient city walls of the city, currently it is still able to visit the walls and they are still extremely good for taking a walk and biking. The whole wall can be as long as 4km. you also could get a great panoramic view form the top of the walls.

Piazza dell’Anfiteatro

In the north east side of the city within the wall, this place has its own charms. It is a medieval plaza built on the previous site of the Roman amphitheatre. It is now shaped in an oval shape and lined up with cafes and also a market. Taking a stroll here is absolutely amazing.

St Martin’s Cathedral

Also known as the Lucca Cathedral, this 11th century cathedral is similar with those in Italy with that iconic white façade, however it is unique here with the square bell tower. Parts of the cathedral will require a ticket to enter. The cathedral is located in the main plaza.

Torre Guinigi 

A medieval tower with brick exterior and also 230 steps to the top, once you have made the climb, you will be rewarded with an amazing sight of the city and also accompanied by the trees planted on top. It is a classic example of Romanesque-Gothic architecture.

Torre delle Ore

The other tower in town, this is a bell tower and you could also reach the top of it. The clock of the tower deserves a look and is awesome. It has a great view of the most famous street in town, Via Fillungo.

Via Fillungo

Practically splitting up the city into two, cutting from North to South, this is the main street in town. Lining it up are numerous recognizable brands and restaurants. It is the place to visit to get something.

The prices are affordable and you will definitely enjoy their cooking here. It is open from Mon to Sat from 12pm to 2.30pm and from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.

Pizzeria da Felice

Located right in the heart of the city, this is the place to go for fro local handmade pizza. Crowded and always packed with locals, it is located near the Torre Delle Ore. Their dish pizza is a must get. It is closed on Sun, on Mon it is open from 11am to 8.30pm. On Tues to Sat it is open from 10am.

Ristorante Cantine Bernardini Lucca

Local and traditional with family Italian flair in their dishes, this restaurant serves up the most authentic dishes at fair prices. They have been established for a long time and have never failed with their cooking. It is open from Wed to Sun, for dinner from 7pm to 10.30pm and only Lunch on Sun from 12pm to 2.30pm.
