From Train Station to the City

Both Newbury local trains stop at both stations and run from Reading approximately every half hour taking some 20 to 30 minutes for the journey from London. The town area is easily walkable and small enough.


Highclare Castle

An impressive country house of the Earl and the Countess Carnarvon, designed by architect Charles Barry this house is really impressive. It’s also the filming site of award winning series, Downton Abbey. Besides the castle you also have to enjoy the lush greens and gardens. The estate is open during certain times of the year.

Donnington Castle

Located just north of Newbury, this striking ruined medieval castle still remain a popular attraction despite it being destroyed in the second civil war in 1644. Built in 1386 the twin towered gate house still remains. It is open during daylight hours with free entrance.

Sandham Memorial Chapel

The Haven, Harts Ln, Burghclere, Newbury RG20 9JT, UK

Original built to house a series of paintings by English painter Stanley Spencer, it is also a memorial to a Lt Sandham whom died in the First World War. With gorgeous lawns and orchards and views of the nearby lush greens, this is definitely worthy of a visit.
