I was back in Taipei for the second time this year in August. A twist of events got me visiting the city for the second time this year. I love being back in Taipei beside the weather at this time of the year. For the first part of my stay in Taipei, I check out the Just Sleep Sanchong. Technically speaking, Sanchong is in New Taipei City. It is just on the fringe of Taipei and easy to get around with the metro. Just Sleep Sanchong is the 6th Silks Hotel Group property I have stayed in Taiwan. You can check out some of their properties review here such as Regent TaipeiWellspring by Silks JiaoxiSilks Place TarokoSilks Club Kaohsiung and Silks Place Tainan. Just Sleep Sanchong is retrofitted from a wood factory in the past. I love how little features and signatures of the history have been incorporated into the current hotel design.

Booking Process & Pre Arrival

The Just Sleep Sanchong is technically in New Taipei City, just on the fringe of Taipei. It is pretty convenient and much better than I thought. The hotel is right outside the train station. You can use the metro to whisk you around the city in minutes. It took me only 20 minutes to get to Shilin Night Market. It is a great base to explore both the surrounding area as well as Taipei. The hotel is near to one of the best and upcoming night markets in town, Sanhe Night Market. Seeing The World In Steps stayed as a guest of Silks Hotel Group. I am staying in their exclusive Executive Room. Parking is complimentary for guests. The hotel is very new and one of the best in the area. Just Sleep Sanchong features 95 guest rooms across 3 categories.

Checking In

After landing in Taoyuan Airport at around 4.30pm we took the Airport Metro to San Chong Station before hopping onto a taxi. It was a short ride away and cost 160 NTD for the journey. I love the industrial vibes and look of the place. I was help by the receptionist at the counter. There isn’t a wait at this time. Check-in was fast. I was given all the information for my stay.

There are various seating by the side of the lobby. The lobby also acts as a little lounge area. Biscuits and drinks are available for guests to enjoy from 1pm to 10pm. I was then ushered to my room by the staff who gave a brief introduction of the place.

Executive Room

I was assigned a king executive room on the 10th floor. This is on the highest floor. Executive rooms are on either end of the corridor since they are corner rooms. They measure 30 Sqm in size. These are also the only rooms that come with a kitchenette. You can find them to the right after entering the room. It is well equipped with an induction stove top, a sink and a microwave. Kitchen equipments are included and they have a mini fridge left empty for your use. This will come in handy for long stays and for preparing simple meals. Alongside complimentary bottles of water provided there is also a proper espresso coffee machine. These are replenish during daily housekeeping. There are also some local teas from the region.

The bathroom is on the left. It comes with a Japanese-style bidet toilet as well as both a standing shower and a bathtub. The set-up is akin those usually seen in Japan with both the standing shower and bathtub behind a glass door. This is nice as it allows you to get from the tub straight to the shower. All sorts of amenities are provided with toiletries are in large pump-size dispensers. Temperature controls are good but water pressure can be improved.

Moving on to the main space of the room itself. Check out how lovely the place is. It will be great for 2 to 3 people. You can find a signature silks wellspring king-size bed in the middle of the room and a sitting area too. This is the same bed in Regent Taipei. I love the memory foam mattress as it confronts your back and offers excellent back support. You can further customize your sleep experience with your choice of pillow. I got a memory foam pillow and slept so well. I did not expect this from this level of property.

Even in the room, you can find little design quirks from the factory days. The nightstands are designed to look like cartoon boxes. On both sides of the bed, you can find controls for the lighting and power outlets. They even had USB ports installed. Check out the little hooks they have on the wall by the bed. There are even some stools that you can use for extra seating in the room if you require them.

The television is mounted on the wall right opposite the bed. The dining table is found here and it comes in handy. This is good for both working or dining with outlets designed within reach. I did feel that the television is a little small for the room size. The TV comes with a nice selection of both international and local cable TV channels.

On the other side of the room, you can find a couch. It is spacious enough to be a daybed for the little one. The view was nothing memorable. I left the curtains drawn.

The corner of the room comes with a huge wardrobe with additional storage for your items and plenty of hangers. There is also a safe and a portable luggage rack here. We also got a chance to look at the Hollywood Room, the base-level room type here.

Fitness Centre

The fitness centre is on the second floor. It is open from 6am to 11pm daily. The gym is on the smaller side and comes with just a couple of types of equipment. There are some treadmills, bikes and weights. It does get the job done if you need a quick workout. The equipment is well maintained.

Laundry Room

Besides the gym, you can also find a laundry room on the second floor. This is available for all guests to use. It certainly comes in handy if you are doing a long stay. This is complementary to use. You can even request detergent from the front desk.

Just Cafe

The Just Cafe is located on the ground floor. It offers lunch service from 11.30am to 2pm from Mon to fri. It is something like a noodle bar with a simple menu. It only offers 3 types of noodles. You can check out the menu here.

I tried the Signature Regent Braised Beef Noodles and the Scallop Chicken Noodle. It was really good. I especially love the scallop chicken noodle. The noodles were a good portion and came accompanied by some housemade condiments and side dishes. The soup is very flavourful. I love that they are using some form of thicker noodles.

Breakfast at Just Cafe

Breakfast is served at Just Cafe. Breakfast service is from 6.30am to 10am daily. It can get crowded at later timings. I was down for breakfast at around 9.30am. The spread isn’t overly huge but everything looks really good. I was shown to a table after providing the breakfast voucher. Everything is self-service. You have a juice station, continental selection and a pastry corner. On the main buffet line there are both cold and hot options.

The cold station consists of some fruits, a salad bar and snacks. For hot dishes, there are some rice, dumplings, porridge and stir fry. They look very good and were delicious. Items were replenished and cooked in small batches. I enjoyed the pork and vegetables. Weirdly, they even had soft drinks on offer. Check out some of the pictures.

Conclusion

I enjoyed my stay at Just Sleep Sanchong. This is a great option if you want something out of the busy central area. The hotel offers a great balance between price and quality. I love the location. There are various eateries and shops in the surrounding area. The proximity to the MRT station also makes is easy to zoom around the city. On first look, it might seem that the hotel isn’t located in Taipei city itself but it is just on the fringe. With the metro station right outside, I can get to various places easily. I can get to Shilin in less than 20 minutes. I will have no qualms about coming back here for a stay. This is my favourite Just Sleep property in this part of Taipei!
