I had a cosy week in Los Angeles, as a result of the ANA error fare! This is my second time back in Los Angeles. It’s been a good 6 years since I am here. I am looking forward to reliving some of my favourite memories of the city as well as checking out some new places on my list! While there are many criticisms of LA and they have their issues, I had some of my best travel experiences there too. Up to today, I still can’t forget how helpful this one American I met near LAGC. That left me with a lasting impression of Americans. LA consists of various metropolitan areas, each of which can be considered a “city” by itself. For example, Santa Monica, DTLA and Beverly Hills. Join me in my adventures.

Transportation in Los Angeles

If there is one bad aspect of LA, it is the public transportation. This is not just an issue relating to Los Angeles itself but the United States. It is especially apparent on the West Coast and LA! I have to say that LA has one of the worst public transportation in the city that I have visited. It is a car city and without one, it certainly limits you. Lyft and Uber to help things but they are no longer that affordable.

LA does have a bus and metro system that is rather limited. Furthermore, it is known for being unsafe, dirty and packed with homeless as well as drug users. They are also very unreliable. I once waited almost an hour for the bus to take me back from Santa Monica! Do be prepared to face these issues if you want to take them. Sometimes, renting a car or taking Uber/Lyft isn’t that worthwhile for solo travellers. LA uses the TAP card for its bus and metro system. Rides cost 1.75 USD. I relied mainly on it to get around and took Uber/Lyft to areas like Hollywood Hills.

Conclusion

I love LA! Despite all the issues, I had a really lovely time. Do note that hotel prices are through the roof. LA has everything that you might want from mountains to the great Pacific Ocean. It is one of the main gateway for the west coast and you should never miss checking out this diverse place. My favourite goes to Santa Monica and I am glad to be back here twice. There are certainly still areas left for me to explore. Some of them are much easier with a car! I can’t wait to be back one day to explore the West Coast and do a drive on the Pacific Coast Highway. I thoroughly enjoyed the week that I spent in the city. I can’t believe how much I miss it. The food and the places. It just has a sense of familiarity to me. The weather was amazing during my time here. See you when I see you, Los Angeles!
