Silks Place Tainan is the last hotel I stayed at during this trip. We head down south to Tainan and check out Silks Place Tainan. This is the third Silks Place property in Taiwan. It has been a whirlwind trip around Taiwan. Tainan is Taiwan’s oldest cultural capital. The place is ramping up its celebrations to celebrate Tainan City’s 400th anniversary of establishment in 2024. Silks Place Tainan is undoubtedly the best hotel in town.

Booking Process & Pre Arrival

The Silks Place Tainan is in one of the most central areas of Tainan. It is just a short distance from the train station and in the city centre. It is right next to a department store. Seeing The World In Steps stayed as a guest of Silks Hotel Group. I am staying in their exclusive Executive Junior Family Suite. Parking is complimentary for guests. While the hotel is already 9 years old, it is very well-maintained and has undergone refurbishment. The Silks Place Tainan features 255 guest rooms and suites across 9 categories. Each of the rooms here features a free minibar and a bathtub.

Checking In

We took a drive from Kaohsiung to Tainan that took about an hour. Silks Place Tainan is about 20 minutes from the airport and 40 mins from the HSR Station. We arrived at around 4.30pm. The lobby felt very grand and I love the design quirks influenced by the local destination. There are various seatings around the lobby. The check-in desks are to the left of the lobby.

Adjacent to the lobby you can find the Silks Library, a space for guests to enjoy and relax. It is a very cosy seating space. This is a lovely space for relaxation or private business meetings. It offers an additional spot if you want a change of scenery.

Executive Junior Family Suite

I stayed in suite 920. The suite is spacious 52.9 Sqm. This is great for small families and could fit 3 adults nicely. The Junior Suite is rectangular in configuration. The seating area comes with a coffee table, a sofa and two chairs. This could fit 4 to 5 people comfortably. Left on the table is a welcome amenity consisting of some fruits.

The suite comes with two 40-inch Smart TVs with free in-room movies. There is a television in the living room area with a pantry set up, a wardrobe and a luggage storage area. I love the look of the place. It comes with a nice local touch as well. The open-concept wardrobe consists of plenty of hangers, a luggage storage rack, bath towels, bathrobes and bath slippers.

In the middle, there is an island with two barstools. This area acts as the dining table and the working desk in the room. It will be great for enjoying some snacks or drinks here. I did feel that the television is slightly a little small for the living room. The minibar is set up right opposite the wardrobe. It is very well equipped and consists of a Nespresso coffee machine as well as a special revolving coffee machine. This is paired with some speciality tea and coffee. The mini bar is stocked with their house-branded signature sparkling tea and winter melon beer. A speciality in this region.

The bedroom is separated from the living area with a sliding partition. This adds up some Japanese flair to the room and has a very clean look. A handy setup if a travelling party is resting and you want to relax or get some work done in the living area.

The bedroom is of a very good size and very spacious. I love the look of the place which is luxurious but very clean and tidy. The centrepiece of the room is the plush king-size bed. The mattresses are on the soft side but still very comfortable. It offers awesome back support and the same goes for the pillows. There is a pillow menu that allows you to tailor your sleep experience. On both sides of the bed, you can find nightstands with controls for the lighting and power outlets. They even had USB ports. There is another television mounted on the wall in the bedroom. It is the same as the one in the living room. This is a good size for the bedroom. I love the welcome message on the television.

At the far end of the bedroom, you have another seating area. It feels like a Japanese tea house. I love the zen look and vibes of the place. How cosy is this! This sport will be great to enjoy some tea or reading a book. The view is unblocked and you have a great view of the surrounding area. This is one of my favourite spots in the room.

The bathroom is huge! It comes with double sinks and all sorts of amenities are provided. It is so sweet for them to provide facial masks too. What a lifesaver with the scorching suns in Tainan.

Make sure to check out the bathtub! How spacious this is! It did feel a little wasted that they did not provide any bath salts.

The toilet and showers are in separate rooms. Water pressure and temperature control are excellent. I do wish that there is a rainforest showerhead over here and there is space for it.

The bathroom comes with a heated toilet seat with a bidet. We also got a chance to look at the Corner Suite, one of the largest accommodations in the hotel.

Executive Lounge

Executive level rooms guests can check in and check out at the lounge on the 14 floor. The lounge offers afternoon tea from 2pm to 5pm and evening cocktails from 8pm to 10pm. All-day drinks are available at all other times. Executive-level guests can also enjoy exclusive check-in & check-out with an exclusive concierge, Complimentary pressing of one set of business attire and one shoe shine service per stay, daily access to private meeting rooms and free local calls. The lounge is quite lovely. Service is very attentive here.

I got a chance to look at the afternoon tea selections when I visited the lounge. You can find a number of sweet treats and hot food. There is also a small salad station.

They do have quality drinks and artisan water. There are also can drinks and juices.

Kids Club

The kids club is on the fourth floor beside the gym. It is open daily from 6.30am to 10pm. It is a good place for the little ones to enjoy while the adults are away by the pool or gym. It features board games, PS4 consoles, a foosball table, play areas and books for children.

They also have some activities throughout the day. Most of them are complimentary. You can find the schedule here

Fitness Centre

The hotel facilities are all located on the fourth floor. The fitness centre is open from 6.30am to 10pm daily. It is a good size and faces the street. They have types of equipment ranging from treadmills to bikes. Bottles of water, as well as towels, are provided here.

Pool

The outdoor swimming pool is one of the nicest areas of the hotel and one of my favourite. The pool was glistering under the glorious sun. Perhaps way too glorious! The pool comes with an infinity edge. The regular size is great for doing laps or lazing. You can find sunbeds by the side of the pool. Staff service is excellent here.

From Tues to Sun, there are nightly singing performances by the pool. It is a great way to cool down in this weather.

Silks Bar Hopping Bus Tour

The hotel runs a bar-hopping bus tour every Fri and Sat night. It is a whole lot of fun. We start by boarding the bus in the lobby. This bus tour is also open to outside guests. The bus will bring you to 7 of the most unique bars in Tainan. Some of these bars are pretty special and hidden. So the tour is a good way to explore them. It cost NT $1980 per person.

Check out how quirky this is! I have not been to a party bus or van since my college days. The main party is on the top deck of the open-top bus. Once we board, the staff will offer you a bottle of beer in hand and a goodie bag. It comes with all we might need for the night.

Look at how they identify you as a part of the bus tour. They had this shot glass on a lanyard for you to wear on your neck.

Throughout the tour, they will play some games onboard and those who answer incorrectly will get a shot! That is epic. They might find all sorts of reasons to offer shots. Warning, this may include boarding and alighting the bus!!!

We will visit 7 unique cocktail bars throughout the night and enjoy their speciality cocktails. They will give a short introduction to the cocktails and the bar. Check out my IG for a reel of the bus tour.

Glass House Bar

The Glass House is located by the side of the pool on the fourth floor. It is cosy and intimate. It is a great spot to get some drinks both in the day and night. They are open from 5pm to 8pm and from 9pm to 12am. From Tuesday to Sunday, there will be live music from 9pm to 11pm.

We came here to check out the cocktails and drinks. They have these unique 108 shots pagoda tower drinks that you can make sure everyone stays hydrated. This is inspired by the 108 stars of destiny in Water Margin, one of the four Chinese literature classics. Combined with Taiwanese tea, spirits, and candied fruit, the speciality snack from Tainan. The shot set has 108 different flavours. I love the concept and it will be great with a bunch of friends and socialising. It will be perfect for a hen night or stag party.

If you fancy, catch on to the 36 Strategy shot drinks. This comes with a bamboo Chinese fortune stick set that you can shake to decide which shot to get! I love how they play on the Chinese classics. There will be 36 tea or juice-flavoured shots with Vodka, Gin, Rum, Whiskey, Brandy and Tequila. Check out my IG for more videos.

Robin’s Teppanyaki

We had dinner at Robin’s Teppanyaki, the hotel’s signature restaurant by the lobby. The decor was retro and felt very cosy. The restaurant is open for lunch from 12pm to 3pm and dinner from 6pm to 10pm. We had the Teppanyaki Summer Set Menu. The price ranges from NT $2580 to NT $4680, depending on your main course. It works like a semi-ala carte buffet style. You have access to a salad bar and the dessert station.

Here are some pictures of the salad station. You have some house-made salads, a cheese board and cold dishes. Everything is so good and fresh.

Appetisers consisting of Atu fried fish, Marinated tuna and Sea horse

Abalone with King Oyster Mushroom

Mud Eel with Butter and Mashed Yam

Mushroom with Crab Filling and Zucchini

For my main, I went for the USDA Prime Beef (Platinum Certificate) Prime Ribeye 4 oz. I paired it up with a glass of Napa. It came with kimchi, aioli, garlic and Hawaiian Black Salt.

Eel with Sansho Fried Rice

Dried Seafood Stew Soup

Summer Wagashi

I had way too much food and everything was so delicious. No meal is complete without desserts. I head over to the dessert station. There are tons of cakes, tarts and sweet treats. We got some to share among us.

They also have all-you-can-eat ice cream and souffle.

Breakfast at Robin’s Grill

Breakfast was served in Robin’s Grill from 7am to 10am. It is located on the ground floor by the lobby. This is one of the two breakfast venues in the hotel. I went to check it out at around 8am in the morning. It is not overly crowded. The restaurant is pretty spacious. They mainly offer western selections here but you do get some local food like Tainan Beef Soup.

Breakfast was quite a good spread. Right in front of you, there is a salad station with tons of fresh and crisp vegetables. There are also some premade salads, cheese and fresh fruits.

To the left, there is also a bakery section. The live station here had a chef whipping up some onion pancakes and there is also a carving station.

I love that they incorporated some of the local cuisines into the breakfast. They had Tainan’s famous beef soup. It felt something like pho where the hot broth is poured over thinly sliced beef to cook it.

At the other end, you can find most of the Western selections. There are some chicken and grilled fish. Everything looks so good. Don’t miss this!

Local Taiwanese Breakfast

I had breakfast instead on the fourth floor where they had the local Taiwanese breakfast. It is located in a refurbished banquet hall or function room. I was welcomed in after giving my room number. The staff then usher me to a table and provided me with a voucher to exchange for the special crab porridge. This is limited to one person.

They have a lot of traditional food over here. Here are some pictures of the buffet. All the hot dishes look very delicious. Some of the memorable items are the stir-fried chicken, clams, and fried eggs with sakura prawns. I love that they have all sorts of local Tainan specialities like steamed meatballs, tea rice pudding and Taiwanese popiah.

There are also plenty of à la carte live stations. We have the signature Tainan seafood porridge which comes packed full of ingredients like clams, prawns, scallops and a half crab.

Then you have the signature Tainan beef soup here and some pork noodles.

Breakfast was a treat. I enjoy the local dishes. The beef soup was awesome! I enjoyed the food thoroughly. I did wish that they had a better environment for the breakfast since this is permanent. I am also surprised by the lack of orange juice. Drinks-wise can be refined too.

Conclusion

Silks Place Tainan is a lovely hotel and probably the best in Tainan. I will recommend everyone to stay here when visiting this historical cultural city. I had a fantastic stay at Silks Place Tainan. I love the suite that I am in. It is so well designed. The space is comfortable for both couples and small families. Do try out the local Tainan breakfast if you have a chance. I enjoyed the local Tainan Beef Soup and Meat Soup. I found it a little weird that they didn’t have OJ for breakfast. The hotel comes with a huge selection of dining options and a lovely pool. Do join the bar-hopping bus tour if it is your kind of thing. I had a load of fun!
