Keeping up with my one First Class flight a year. I will be flying Singapore Airlines First Class to Dubai. The exclusive product is found only on the 777. I managed to get this ticket a couple of months ago when the availability were wide open. We even got 2 First Saver. This was really rare since it is the peak travelling period for Dubai. Looks like I will be going on one last First Class hurrah before the devaluation. I paid 86,500 Miles and 35.81 SGD in taxes. This is of spectacular value. I even tag on a sector from Jakarta which makes it even sweeter. If paid in cash, this flight would have cost 6007 SGD. That is some return on the miles. The 777 are very old and these products have been around for quite some time. I have also shared about the product multiple times. Despite it being dated, it is still a very comfortable one. I am not goign to dwell much into the hardware since I have covered it multiple time. Do also check out my entire collection of SQ premium cabin reviews. Let’s fly to Dubai!
Checking In
I have technically already check-in prior in Jakarta, but of course we went back again to check in on the morning of our flight given that we had many more bags to check-in for Dubai. We got to the First Class check in reception at Terminal 3 at around 9.30am. Traffic was busy but we still left plenty of time at the airport to enjoy the lounges. The bell service immediately came over to help us with our bags as we pulled up. WE were also invited to take a seat while the check in process were underway. This is such a nice place. Soon we got our boarding pass in hand. You can then go thru the private immigration line which had little to no wait at all. Do note that you can’t use an e-boarding pass when using the private immigration entrance. It let us out right opposite the Singapore Airlines lounges.
Boarding Process
Boarding is assigned for gate A2 which is one of the nearer cluster gate to the lounge. You will be there in less than 5mins. Do make sure to cater additional time as it can get quite busy at these cluster gates. Singapore Airlines also doesn’t do priority lines for security here. Boarding started slightly ahead of time at 1.55pm. First Class passengers were invited after guests needing assistance. Upon arrival at the door, I was warmly welcomed by the manager and crew before being ushered over ot my seat. We will be getting the two middle seat. It is such an intimate cabin with only 4 First Class seats onboard. Shona the leading working the cabin was amazing. We were offered helped with our jackets and she also came by to introduce herself. Shona very classy presented the menu and asked for my Champagne preference for a welcome drink. I got a Krug. Despite having 3 of the finest bubbles choice, I still adore the Krug.
Shona also informed that the amenities are already in the side cabinets. Meal orders were taken and hot towels were presented. Later on Jo, the IFM also came by to welcome us. We had a slight delay on the ground and only push back shortly after 2.35pm. Shona later came by to offer a refill and I went for the Bollinger. WE had a rathe rlong taxi and were only air borne at 2.52pm. They could delay as long as I want.
Singapore Airlines 777 First Class
Let me just share some updated photos of the cabin! I will not dwell into the seats anymore!
I will share briefly on the bathroom. There are two bathrooms at the front for first class passengers and the crew also uses it. Just want to share slightly on this since they had some new amenities. I am a huge fan of the dental kits catered for First Class now. It comes in this cute little packaging that allows you to reuse it and they were from Colgate now. I love how high quality it is.
Meal Service
Meals orders were already taken while on the ground. You can find the menu for the flight over here. You know that you will be in for a treat when in First Class. You will never go hungry onboard Singapore Airlines First Class. I had also pre ordered the Galbi Jjim from the Book The Cook selection. I have always been wanting to try this out. Service started shortly after levelling off with the signature satay service. The canapes was served alongside your after take off drinks. I went with a SilverKris Sling. This is one of my favourite.
After, I switched over to the 2020 Meursault Premier Cru Château de Blagny. The IFM was very hands on. The crew also brought over some chips for me to go with my drinks. Another round of hot towels were offered after the satay service. This is appreciated.
The proper meal service was offered at around 4pm. I would appreciate if the sercie is offered earlier to maximise resting time after the meal. Somehow, the crew were pouring Blu but this was promptly corrected to Evian once informed. Weird! We were offered both the Caviar and a soup course if we fancy. Look at how lovely the Caviar is presented! I enjoyed it. The crew also brought over the pastries basket.
We then hit a snag due to the weather and had to hold off for a while before the soup was served. I had the Double Boiled Chicken Lotus Roots Soup with Red dates, peanuts, chicken, lotus roots. This was one of the best I had and in fact my favourite of the entire meal. Soup dishes works so well onboard. It just felt so good to have something pipping hot in the cold cabin. I wish that SQ can extend a soup course in business class too. Top notch and nostalgia.
For my main, I pre ordered the Galbi Jjim from the BTC selection. It was alright, nothing too amazing. I would prefer the Wagyu yakiniku or the Sakana Teriyaki. While the beef was tender, it wasn’t mind blowing. I am also not a fan of the five grain rice.
For desserts, I opted for the Warmed Apricot Frangipane which is a baked sweet tart shell filled with almond paste and topped with sliced apricot and served with berry compote and vanilla sauce. There was also some ice cream on the side. This was pretty tasty! Shona also offered some cheese and fresh fruits but I was too stuffed.
I got a 1837 black tea with some honey on the side at Shona recommendations. This ended up being my favourite tea as of now!
Service ended with the presentations of a bottle of water and a box of Laurent Bernard chocolates. This is a great addition to the service.
During the flight, we had a birthday surprise with a cake and some mimosa since it was my mums birthday. It is always a special moment to be celebrating your occasion in the air and especially in First Class. The second meal service was offered at around 8.50pm Singapore time. About 1 hour 15 mins before landing. I appreciate the crew for doing this as late as possible to maximise rest time. Service started with another round of hot towels. I went with the fried rice. This comes full of Prawn, Scallops, Fish Fillet and Asian Greens. It ended up being so good.
I had it with some sake. They are offering Mozu Junmai Daiginjo in First Class. Speaking about Sake, it seems that SQ is now cutting down on this and only offering Sake in First Class. This includes Japan flights. There are no more Sake in business class. This is bad. Especially when it includes Japanese flight too. Service ended with Shona presenting a bottle of water and another round of hot towels. What an amazing standard of service on this flight. They are on top of everything. I got one round of Blue Mountain coffee right before landing.
Conclusion
This is such an enjoyable flight. It went by in no time and I wish that it is longer. This is one of the best I had in First Class. The service was excellent and above average. Special mention to Shona and the IFM Jo. They were at the top of the game with so much initiative and took great care of us. I appreciate the multiple rounds of hot towels. The F&B on this flight was also top notch. Some of the more memorable items were the refreshment fried rice and the chinese double boiled soup. What a fantastic redemption this was at the old rate. The value is unbeatable. Any First Class at Saver rate is a good first class. Dubai is a very nice destination to experience first class if you want. The flight departs at a nice daytime for you to enjoy the flight. The flight duration of around 7 hours allows you to enjoy a leisurely meal and also get a little nap. You also get to enjoy TPR for both breakfast and lunch service. I will have no qualms doing this again.
