Bubba Gump Shrimp Co is a family chain restaurant that specializes in seafood style dishes. They are a common sight around the states! You can surely find them throughout your travels. For those people who like to have seafood, this is the place to be! They are a normal diner, nothing very special but still a pretty decent place for some grub. I had the opportunity to try them when I was in Santa Monica, the restaurant is located right on the pier. I’m sure it is easy enough for anyone to spot their quirky exterior! Prices for a main usually cost around 20 bucks and as per the norm, their portions here are very generous!
Feeling a little peckish after checking out Santa Monica and in need of a place to rest our legs, we decided to have lunch at Bubba Gump. The interior of the restaurant was decked out in wood, very warm, very welcoming. The restaurant also boost awesome view of the beach and water. So that is a plus point for dining at the branch in Santa Monica. Surely the view makes everything all worth it! Just check out this view. Imagining dining with the views of the waves crashing and seagulls flying pass you!
I also love that the place have this little quirky signs that shows “Run Forrest Run” and “Stop Forrest Stop” that you can flip to indicate to the waiters if you need any help! I think that it is such a interesting idea!
As we were all feeling pretty famished. We went all out and ordered 3 mains, one for each of us! Usually we will just share since the portion is huge! Being here, of course we can’t go without the favourite, we went for the Forrest’s Seafood Feast, that comes with bits of their favourite such as Fried shrimp, fish and also their seafood hush pups. It also came along with fries and a assortment of dips. It was awesome, good but ordinary. I love that it was well fried and the stuff was fresh which is always so important when you are working with seafood. After all it is 60% ingredients 40% skills. The feast cost us 20.79 USD.
We then ordered one of their creations, the Accidental Fish & Shrimp. Which is pan seared flounder with grilled shrimp over some jasmine rice and lemon butter sauce. This cost around 21. I have to say that the sauce is unbelievable. It sort of blends everything together and it is so delish, but so guilty at the same point since the sauce is full of butter!
My mum was craving for some pasta so upon the waiter recommendation we got the scampi which was surely interesting, it is light and savory at the same time. With the touch of lemon cutting all the grease from the sauce and prawns. The pasta cost about 20 bucks. I don’t really like the taste of the capers.
The whole meal came to about 67 USD and after tip it was around 80 bucks. Pretty expensive for our standard but that is the case over there. Things are more expensive over there. I’m sure that this is definitely not the best place to eat in Santa Monica, but for the price, location and view, I won’t mind coming back again. Furthermore the food was good, stuff was fresh and they have so many options on the menu too. Check them out if you are in Santa Monica!
