Hilton have since expanded its footprint in Rome since my last time here. I have heard very good things about this property. It is also one of the newer ones over here. What a great lineup! It used to be just the iconic WA, which doesn’t make sense for most travellers. The DT offers a great bargain for your wallet, and the location is perfect for exploring most of the sights in town. It is also easy to access, with the Termini station just a couple of minutes away on foot. It also has good transport links. I am glad to be able to try this out. Let’s see!
Booking Process & Pre Arrival
I will be staying here for 3 nights. We got here after Florence. It will be the final city for us in Italy. I booked the base-level deluxe room. I reached out to the hotel a couple of days ahead to get my preference in and also some updated information about the property. This property is of good value on points too, which I originally booked before changing to a sale rate. A couple of days out of my stay, I can see that I have been upgraded to a king junior suite with a terrace. That is a lovely one and a great touch of recognition from the property. Checking In
I took the train over from Florence and got to Rome station at around 11.40am. It was rainy when we arrived, but otherwise it is very easy to reach the property on foot. It was about a 10-minute stroll from the station. The door is located to the side. There are no bellboys available or on duty. I am quite a fan of the lobby and reception area. It has plenty of seating around the area with a bar, and then the reception is located over in the corner on the bottom floor.
We were helped by a friendly guy who processed my check-in and then registered my info. My room was not ready at the point of my arrival and will be ready around 2pm or so. I was reconfirmed that I have been upgraded to one of their king junior suite with a terrace. We decided to check our bags and come back at a later time. We ended up only getting back in the evening after checking out the city. They only provided 2 bottles of water per day.
Junior Suite with Terrace
I was assigned a junior suite on the fifth floor. There are two sets of elevators here to the rooms. The staff very nicely directed me to the one that is more convenient for my room. My suite was just around the corner from the elevator. So the staff will route you to the one that is more convenient for your room. Pretty high level of footprint per floor, with a huge number of rooms. Mine was just around the corner from the elevators, nearer to the reception area. Upon entering the suite, it comes with an L-shaped kind of entranceway. I appreciate that there is an ottoman here that will allow you to take off your footwear and sit down by the entrance, which is really handy to have. Straight ahead from the entrance is the bathroom. It is spacious. I did wish that they had double sinks here. It comes with a good amount of platform space. As per the usual, amenities are from Crabtree and Evelyn in large pump-sized bottles. The bathroom also comes with a heated towel rack, which definitely comes in handy during this time of the year when I am staying. The standing shower is of a good size and fully enclosed behind a glass screen. I love the set-up since it prevents water from getting all over the place. It comes with a handheld shower head and a rain shower. The water pressure and temperature control are excellent.
Along the entranceway, you can find an open-concept wardrobe area. It comes with a good number of hangers, an ironing kit, laundry bags, bathrobes and bath slippers. You can also find a suitcase here. The open concept makes the place much bigger. Next to it is the mini bar area. It comes with a proper Lavazza coffee machine, capsules and packaged tea. Such a property in Italy. There is also a fridge that is left empty for your use. Complimentary bottles of water are provided, and they replenish them daily during housekeeping. They caught me by surprise with the large full-size bottles of Acqua Panna. It is not expensive to offer this artisanal water in Italy, and I am glad that they did not scrimp on this. Superb quality and certainly worth mentioning at a DT.
The main space of the suite is in a rectangular layout. On the side over here, you have a little couch that could probably seat 2 pax. We used it as an additional luggage area. I did wish that they had some additional portable racks.
The room comes with a large, high-quality smart screen television. There are a good number of both international and local Italian channels. This is of a good size for the suite.
The circular table works as both the dining area and the working desk. It comes with only a single chair. I would believe that a pair works better. Power outlets and ports are located within reach.
The plush king-size bed is super comfortable, and I love that it is on the firmer side. This is something I very much prefer. On both sides of the bed are nightstands with controls for the power outlets and lighting. Top-notch on this aspect. The pillows were great too. We did manage to get some additional memory foam pillows that offer excellent neck support.
This suite also comes with a very gorgeous outdoor terrace area. It opens up to the surrounding area with a huge dining table and seating for about 5 to 6 pax. This will be so great during the warmer months when the weather is great. We didn’t really get to utilise this during my stay since it was raining non-stop throughout. I love the space. This will make a very good venue for a cosy gathering with friends, with some wine, pizza, etc.
Fitness Centre
The fitness centre is located on the first floor and open 24 hours. You can simply access it with your key cards. It is on the smaller side and just a small room. This is quite nice and not too shabby. The place has the usual gym equipment such as treadmills, weights, etc. It is simple but gets the work done.
Breakfast at Mamalia Restaurant
Was down to have breakfast at about 9.30am or so. Breakfast is offered from 7am to 10.30am on the weekends. It is only until 10am on weekdays. It is at the hotel’s main restaurant just by the reception area.
There is also a small egg menu or something you can order from. Some of them are complimentary for diamond members. Everything else is on the buffet menu. There are coffee machines, tea and some fresh juices. I will just let the pictures do the rest of the sharing. There are no changes to the breakfast from day to day.
Conclusion
This is quite a good DT. Something like a DoubleTree Plus, in my opinion. Just a little bit of a shame that this place doesn’t come with an executive lounge. That would be perfect. It’s an excellent property to stay in when checking out Rome, with the fantastic location. I love the gorgeous lobby area, and the suite was definitely a treat. I did wish that the weather was better during my stay to utilise the terrace. I am glad to see Hilton expanding over here in Rome. They could definitely expand their footprint over here, especially with more premium properties. I did appreciate the proximity to the train station, which makes things really convenient, especially if you’re commuting via train or headed to the airport. The staff are polished too.
