A restaurant with one Michelin star is recognized for havinghigh-quality cookingand is considered a worthwhile destination for a meal.

I have had numerous amazing meals in Shanghai but I figure that this is worth a solo post by itself. I got the chance to dine at Dadong during my trip to Shanghai. Peking Duck is one of the best and most famous duck dishes in the world. It also comes from Beijing, Dadong is also a Beijing chain, and it does have branches in a couple of major China cities. The Shanghai outlet is also a Michelin-star restaurant. This makes it the second Peking duck restaurant that I tried. It is slightly on the pricey side but figure that it will be worth it since we are celebrating my mum’s birthday.

Reservations

We went to the outlet at the IAPM mall. The restaurant opens for lunch from 11am to 2pm and dinner from 5pm to 9.30pm daily. I managed to get a reservation via WeChat. I would recommend doing so via WeChat. It is easier to get in touch with them. Some of the private rooms require a minimum spending. Reservations are recommended.

Conclusion

The staff even offered us a bowl of birthday noodles on the occasion of celebrating my mum’s birthday. They also very nicely extended a private room for our table. The meal was amazing and it was so affordable. The whole meal came up to 807 CNY. The Peking Duck alone cost 398 CNY which is cheap for Peking Duck. We pay so much more over here. As you can see, you can only order a whole duck. We probably over-ordered even with only 4 dishes. This can be an issue here if you do not have a vast group. Since you already minimally have to order a whole duck. That does not leave a lot of space for other dishes. I would love to share the menu but it is still huge to share here. You can reach out on WeChat to them if you want the menu. Highly recommend this spot in Shanghai. The duck is magical!
