It’s been ages since I am in Macau. It must have been almost close to a decade. I am keen to see how have things changed since. The last that I was here, Cotai was still very much in development and there was barely anything besides the Venetian. Now, you have numerous other resorts. A surprising twist of events got me into Macau and perhaps for the next 12 months. A very generous Mastercard and Wynn promotion got me 6 free nights across Wynn Macau and Wynn Palace. The Wynn Palace is the newer one of the two resorts under Wynn in Macau. This is located in the Taipa Cotai area, the newer development area in recent years. It is the Las Vegas of Asia. This is my sole purpose for coming to Macau. I am shocked by Macau prices and how they can command this with the sheer supply of rooms here. Prices at Wynn Resorts are by no means affordable which makes this deal even sweeter.

Booking Process & Pre Arrival

I booked directly with Wynn and Wynn Insider for the stay and made full use of a Mastercard promotion. Some months back, Wynn Insider was offering their top-tier Emerald status to World Elite Mastercard holders which I had access to on account of my Citi Prestige Card. This is especially generous as Wynn Insider Emerald status comes with 6 complimentary free nights across the two properties. If you stay a total of 8 nights, which means an extra 2 paid nights, I will get another 6 more nights for the next membership year. The rooms also include breakfast and all applicable taxes. I was booked into the base-level Palace Room for 2 nights. Rates here usually go for around 3800 MOP or 635 SGD. Wow! Wynn Palace comes with 1706 guest rooms and suites spread across 7 categories. You can check out the breakdown below.

Checking In

I arrived at the resort at around 6.30pm. I took the ferry from Hong Kong and then got the shuttle bus from the ferry terminal to the hotel. Most Macau hotels and resorts offer complimentary shuttle bus service to various points in the city such as the ferry terminal and the boarding gate. You can usually take these even if you are not a hotel guest. This is the easiest way to get around in this city. You can check out the shuttle schedule here. The two most useful shuttles will be the Wynn Palace to Wynn Macau routing and the Wynn Palace to Taipa Ferry Terminal / Macau International Airport routing. If you want to head to Macau Ferry Terminal, you will have to head to Wynn Macau first. Another tip is to head to the nearby resort to see if they have a faster route instead. For example, I took the shuttle from MGM directly to the Ferry Terminal.

The shuttle service stops at the East side which is a huge walk to either the North or the South Lobby for check-in. Usually, you can cut through the Casino but I am not sure if that is feasible with our bags. You can check in at either lobby. I did so at the VIP check-in room and was helped by a rather nonchalant lady. Check-in was prompt and soon I had the keys. No upgrades are available since they are fully booked. I did get a high-floor room. Check-out was at 11am and this was further extended till 1pm on the day of departure. For those who fancy, Wynn Insider Emerald status holder gets a fast track to Wynn Rewards Gold too which comes with some points for food or casino credits. It is all very glam and fancy over here.

Palace King Room

I was assigned a standard Palace King Room on the 15th floor. My room is nearer to the North Wing which makes sense since I check in there. There are numerous floors on each level and it is quite a walk to the rooms. As such, it is nice and better to have a bell service to help with your bags. Despite this being just a basic and the lowest category here, the rooms measure a sprawling 68 Sqm. This can be a suite at other places. Suffice it to say, my jaw dropped immediately once I entered the room and not in a good way! My head even slightly hurt when I saw the decor of the room. It does get better after a while. It is all very pom and glam over here but I can’t say that this is my cup of tea. I interpret luxury differently. The palace rooms here come in a couple of themes, peacock blue, sunrise yellow, and sunset orange. On first look, it feels red and a bloody tampon is what comes to mind when I look at it.

To the left of the spacious entranceway, you can find double doors leading to the bathroom. On both sides of the entrance, you have the wardrobe with a little walk-in concept. It comes well stocked with everything that you might need for the stay from luggage rack, ironing kit, hangers, laundry bags, bathrobes and bath slippers.

On the other side, you can find a spacious luggage rack area that could fit a mid-size suitcase well.

The bathroom is gorgeous! This is my favourite part of the room. At least it didn’t come with that tacky red/orange finish. It comes with double sinks and all sorts of amenities. Most of them are house-branded and the little chest holds everything together. I did love the gold amenities. Those toothbrushes, shivers and comb! That’s funny!

The toilet is located in a separate room inside. I am a little disappointed not to find a bidet inside at this price point. There is both a standing shower and a separate bathtub. The water pressure and temperature control is excellent. Housebrand amenities are lovely too. I appreciated that they have both a rainforest shower head and a wall-mounted one.

Heading on to the main space of the room itself. It is in a squarish configuration. The room is lavish but the reddish orange finishes and does give me a headache. In the corner, you can find the minibar set up. It is well-stocked with all sorts of snacks and drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. It is one of those sensor-activated. You can request another fridge to store your items. This of course comes with matching hotel prices. All sorts of glassware are provided. Alongside there is a kettle and some packaged tea. I was shocked not to see a proper coffee machine in the room. That shouldn’t be the case. It will be very handy without an executive lounge here. Drinking water is provided and they are very generous with them.

The spacious room is made even larger with the high ceilings and the mirrors. The plush king-size bed takes up the centrepiece of the room. The bedding is on the softer side but still rather comfortable. The pillows were great and offered great neck support. There is also a pillow menu that you can use to customize your sleep experience. I had some of those memory foam contour pillows and slept so well. Right in front of the bed is an ottoman.

Flanking both sides of the bed are nightstands. They are very spacious and on one side there is a tablet that you can use to control almost everything in the room, from the television to the lights and the air conditioning. You can also adjust the brightness of the lights. Power outlets are also nicely located by the sides and they accept international outlets. They also thoughtfully left cables for you to charge your phone.

Mounted on the wall is a high-quality and huge 65-inch smart television. It comes with a nice number of both cable and local TV channels. I do wish that we could cast the device onto the television itself. Under it is a closet with more storage space if you require it.

There is another armchair by the side of the window, this will be handy for reading a book or just lazing. It felt rather empty in this huge room and they could use more furniture. Perhaps a longer lazing couch or sofa set will be better.

On the other side, you can find the working desk with an armchair. It is suitable for a short period of working. The table is spacious and can be used for dining if you need to. Power outlets are within reach and the Wi-Fi connection in the room is very good. There are also some writing materials left in the room and the in-room dining benefits. Shortly after checking in, the staff came over to hand me the welcome kit of my membership and also a box of chocolates as a welcome amenity.

I did not get a room with a view despite how high up my room was. It simply faces the back of the property. Do opt for one with a fountain view as that will be very much better.

Turndown service is automatically offered. I would also like to point out that despite opting for a non-smoking room the room still reeks of in some areas. The pillows and headboard also have a lingering smell. That can be quite uncomfortable if you are sensitive towards it. The rooms are very luxurious and nice. It is a huge space. The only issue is the colour theme. I would prefer another style of luxury.

Fitness Centre

The gym is also located on the same floor as the pool. It is not an overly huge space but well maintained. Bottled water and towels are also provided and there is an assortment of machines and equipment. Besides this, there is also a yoga room. The staff here is very polished and polite. It is open from 6am to 9pm daily.

Pool

The pool is located on the second floor and well staffed. It is a nice pool with plenty of sunbeds and cabanas by the side. This would be lovely for laziness or a workout. The pool area is nicely designed and gorgeous. It is also heated and you can use it all year round. The jacuzzi would come in handy. If you come in the evening, you can get a nice display of the fountain and a music show.

Skycab Cable Car

This is one of the main highlights of Wynn Palace. It is open from 4pm to 10pm. On Fri and Sat, it is extended till midnight. They have extended hours on the weekends. Everyone gets unlimited rides on the cable car. As per usual in Macau, most items are open to everyone. This is very popular and be prepared to wait. You should also try to time yourself and ride on it when the music show starts. Thankfully, you get a priority queue for being an elite member or a hotel guest and the queues are much shorter. Do note that you can ride from the upper station or the lower station.

Don’t miss out on this as it is quite special. I caught it just as the music show started. The ride isn’t too long and goes in a loop. If the queue is short, you can also consider going on multiple rides to catch the different shows.

Breakfast at Fontana

Breakfast is served at Fontana. Breakfast is buffet style from 7am to 11am. Breakfast costs 268 MOP for adults or 138 MOP for children if not included in your rate or membership. I appreciate the extended hours especially when people tend to stay up later over here. This is how all resorts should be. The cafe is located in the North lobby area. It is so opulent and majestic with the decor.

I got down to breakfast rather late around 9.30am. The restaurant was busy but there was still no issue getting a seat. We also managed to get one facing the lake and fountain. The view is pretty good with a sweeping view of the lake and fountain. I love that the place gets much natural light. Drinks orders were taken and I love that they had barista-made coffee drinks.

Breakfast is served buffet style and I am rather impressed by the spread. It is a lot better than I expected. The food was delicious and I enjoyed the dim sum. The noodle soup was very good as well. They have an extensive selection of pastries and cakes. Let me share some pictures of the buffet and let it do the rest of the speaking.

Conclusion

It is super awesome to get this for free. The value I extract from this is worth close to 1200 SGD. With that being said, I can’t see myself forking out this amount in cash too. While the resort is very posh and luxurious, it doesn’t seem to be worth commanding this price point too. The promotion got me bewildered. But again, Casinos are great with such promotions. This is one of the best properties in Macau. The decor simply isn’t my thing. If I am paying cash, there are better properties out there that I will pay for. The only issue I had was the slight smoke smell. While this is the lowest category of rooms, it offers a generous amount of space and can be a mini-suite. The room is high-tech and comes with quality finishing. Don’t miss out on the cable car when you are here too.
