Is this the best First Class Lounge in Singapore?

I had the opportunity to check out the Qantas First Class Lounge in Singapore earlier this month when I got invited to the golden anniversary celebrations of Qantas Lounges. I have heard numerous good things about this lounge. Some even said that this is the best First Class Lounge in Singapore Changi Airport and superior to my beloved The Private Room. This is one of the newest among the Qantas lounges network. The lounge only reopened recently after operating for a mere 3 months back in 2019. This 1000 Sqm facility joins the business class lounge and provides capacity for Qantas’ First Class passengers and top-tier frequent flyers. Being a standard Oneworld lounge, Emerald status holders also get access to this facility. The lounge was designed by Australian designer David Caon in collaboration with Kelvin Ho of the architecture and design firm Akin Atelier. The lounge is managed and catered by Accor. The Singapore facility is the fourth Qantas First Lounge.

I visited as part of a media invite to celebrate the long history of flying between Singapore and London and the golden anniversary of Qantas lounges. Qantas’ most iconic route took off between Singapore and London 75 years ago, and in September 1973 the airline opened its first-ever airport lounge. Today, Qantas flies directly daily between Singapore and London. Qantas has 51 lounges around the world.

Arrival & Location

The lounge is one level above the terminal and next to the Marhaba Lounge and Crystal Jade Restaurant. You will find signs leading to the lounge after clearing security. It is in the opposite direction as the Qantas Business Lounge in the D Gates direction. I was warmly welcomed in after entering. The staff were in some gorgeous heritage Qantas uniforms for the event.

Right after the entranceway, you have a little space with sofa seating. This area is very private and cosy. It is a great spot and I like it that they had this artificial skylight. This is a great feature to help travellers with jetlag and time difference. Such a cool and awesome feature.

Then you can find some working desks. There is a printer available for guest’s use. Great spot to get some work done on your laptops if you require.

There are some cubicle-type seatings along the wall. These are perfect for solo travellers. These are great for both working and eating.

The rest of the lounge is filled with couches and typical lounge couches. Heading in, you can also find more restaurant-style seating since this is a huge component of the lounge.

More than half of the lounge is dedicated towards the table service dining that Qantas First Lounge offers.

The bar is in the centre of the lounge.

Moving on to the toilets and showers. This is another impressive aspect of the lounge. They have a total of 9 shower suites, each of them individually located. They are an absolute beauty. The high number of suites nicely caters to the crowd in the evening peak period. I love the white textured marble finish. It is well stocked with all sorts of amenities and features toiletries from LAGAIA UNEDITED. Given that this is a media event, I did not get to try the showers.

Similarly, the bathroom comes with the same skylight concept. You can even adjust it yourself to your preferred mood setting to relax.

Toilets are located in individual rooms and have the same decor. They are well-maintained and clean.

Food & Drinks

I might not be able to share this aspect of the Qantas First Class Lounge as I am visiting on a media visit to the special event. The food and drinks were slightly different from the usual. I do have a copy of the latest menu here that they are serving in the lounge right now.

We did get to sample a small selection of the items from the menu during the event. Prawn Wonton with Black Vinegar and Chilli.

Salt and Pepper Squid with Green Chilli Dipping Sauce and Aioli! This was so good that I had multiple servings. It is a classic of Qantas Lounges!

Plant Based Nasi Lemak! It was surprisingly hearty and very delicious.

Conclusion

This is hands down the best Oneworld lounge at the airport. The best first-class lounge? Between The Private Room and this? Qantas is a serious contender for the title! I did not get a full holistic experience before a flight but I certainly enjoyed the ambience and quirks here. The food and drinks options are excellent Singapore has numerous Oneworld lounges and this is the cream of the crop. Singapore is a huge Qantas regional hub. With this being a standard Oneworld lounge, Emerald status holders get access. I have now visited all the Oneworld lounges in Singapore Changi Airport and will publish my review of the others very soon. Singapore Airlines needs to up its game when T5 is here! I hope to have the opportunity to visit this lounge again right before a flight and also to try Qantas First Class very soon! One of my dream products to review.
