I did a little mattress run back last year in December and came back again for another short stay. I took a trip back in September to Kuala Lumpur and stayed here once again. This is one of my favourite properties at this price point. It is also a fantastic place for a mattress run and the only one left in this part of the world after the devaluation of HGI Bali. There is both the North and the South property if you would like to do a stay run too. The South property is the recommended one. This time around I will be checking out a new room type and staying in the KL Tower View Room. It is a rather unique configuration. I got the corner curved rooms which are far more spacious and special.

Booking Process & Pre Arrival

I booked directly with Hilton for this stay and got the twin room for 72.28 SGD including tax. It is slightly more expensive than expected since I needed a twin room and these are more expensive than a king configuration. This got to be one of my cheapest Hilton hotel stays ever. If you are just winging it and here for a mattress run, you can even get the cheapest single room for just 45 SGD or so. I did not want to take my chance on an upgrade since HGI is excluded and I had 2 pax. How awesome is this place for a mattress run? Hilton Garden Inn Kuala Lumpur South features 227 guest rooms spread across 8 categories. You can find the breakdown below.

Checking In

I arrived at the hotel at around 2pm. The flight had a slight delay and only landed at around 11am. We then took the KL express train to KL Sentral which was such a delight and worth the premium. It only takes 24 minutes. Getting a 30% discount from Pelago makes it even more attractive. From here, I transferred to a Grab which cost me just 12 RM. The hotel is located in the Chow Kit neighbourhood. It is out of the typical tourist enclave but with Grab prices being so affordable, this is not material at all. The lobby is simple and comes with some seating on the side.

There was only one counter in operations and it was a long wait. I waited for around 15 minutes before I was helped to. I wish that they had an elite line here. My stay was reconfirmed and I was given all the information for the stay. Late check-out was extended till 2pm. We also opted for points instead of breakfast.

Deluxe KL Tower View Room

This is the largest room in the hotel. I have previously stayed in a room of this category but not the corner rooms. Do check out my past review. This time around I lucked out in getting the corner curved rooms. These are significantly larger than the usual rooms even if they are in the same category. You can check out the layout plan when doing online check-in. Do try your luck. I selected a room on the 21st floor, room 2105 to be exact. It was just a short walk away from the elevators. Upon entering, you have a spacious entranceway with a full-length mirror on the left and straight ahead will be the bathroom. The bathroom is extremely spacious and comes with a single sink as well as a standing shower. The place is quite nice with a lot of extra space. I am surprised to see that they are still using Peter Thomas Roth toiletries. I love these. They are located in large pump-size bottles. There are plenty of counter space. Dental kits are provided.

The standing shower is of a good size and only comes with a wall-mounted shower head. The water pressure and temperature control are great. I would appreciate it if they have a handheld shower head installed too. That will be more convenient.

Along the wall, you can find the minibar area and the wardrobe. It is on the smaller side but well stocked with plenty of hangers, an ironing kit, bath slippers and a safe. You can find the hairdryer here too.

The mini bar consists of a kettle, instant coffee and packaged teas. There is also a mini fridge that is left empty for your use. In the corner of the room, you can find a small working desk alongside an ergonomic office chair. It is a lovely set-up to get some work done if you require it. Power outlets are within reach and the Wi-Fi connection is very good in the room. I had access to the premium Wi-Fi.

Now let’s come to the main bedroom area which has a curve-like shape on one side due to it being in the corner of the building. I had opted for a twin room since I am staying with a friend this time around. You can find a twin bed side by side against each other. Night stands are found on both sides with outlets and controls for the lighting. The mattresses are great and have a nice balance. I love that it is slightly on the firmer side and has great back support. The pillows were rather mush but thankfully extra pillows can be requested.

The TV is mounted on the wall opposite the bed. I do feel that it is a little on the smaller side. It does come with a good number of both local and international cable TV channels. There is also a sitting area with sofa beds along the curved window and a small coffee table. It is always nice to have a separate seating area in the room. This can come in handy for dining in or just some extra storage area.

The room comes with a lovely view both in the day and in the night. I can even get a clear right of KL tower. It is rather lovely when it lights up at night. Blinds and sheers are manually controlled.

Fitness Centre

Both North and South towers’ guests can use the facilities of both towers. Guests, who are staying in the North Tower, can enjoy the swimming pool in the South Tower. The pool is on the south property. It is located on the ground floor. You can reach out to the front desk team for assistance to access the gym. The gym is open 24 hours.

The place looks clean and well-maintained. I feel that everything is rather new over here. The gym is basic but gets the work done for a quick workout.

Pool

The pool is located on the rooftop on the 25th floor of the South Tower. It will be more convenient for you to use it if you are staying over here. I wish that they have an internal corridor connecting the two buildings. The pool is on the smaller side. Nothing worth mentioning. It is good for getting a workout but not a leisurely relaxing kind of vibes pool.

Rooftop 25 Bar and Lounge

I was surprised by the property restaurant on the rooftop. I managed to take a look this time around. The restaurant is located on the 25th floor and is open from noon till late at night. The last call for food is at 10.30pm and 11pm for drinks. Check out some pictures of the place. It is quite enjoyable and great for dinner. It comes with a lovely view of the KLCC Twin Tower and the KL Tower.

Check out the menu for the restaurant here. The prices are not too bad. Do also take note that Hilton elite members enjoy up to a 25% discount. That might be pretty worthwhile. This is much better than what I would expect from a Hilton Garden Inn.

Conclusion

I enjoyed the stay! Please do an online check-in and choose the curved rooms. These are a step above the rest. The extra space is very much welcomed. With the devaluation of my favourite HGI Bali, this has ended up being the best place for mattress runs and a good way to lock in those necessary nights for your status. I would gladly pay 44-60 dollars to stay here. The quality is pretty good and I had a comfortable stay. The only main complaint is their bathroom. I wish that they had a handheld showerhead. I would love to be back and try the restaurant on my next stay. It is funny how the North and the South are classified as two different properties. This can be separate “wings”. However, this can help in terms of fulfilling stays if you want to qualify based on that. I can see myself coming back for future mattress runs with the single room when it comes in 2024. I would be keen to check out the North property in the future and get breakfast as well.
