I reviewed this particular lounge when it first opened back in May 2022. After almost 1.5 years, I figure it is time for another review and update of the Singapore Airlines dedicated lounge for KrisFlyer Gold and Star Alliance Gold members. You can check out my reviews of the Singapore Airlines lounge offerings at Changi Airport. The Private Room ReviewSilverKris First Class Lounge Review and SilverKris Business Class Lounge Review. The lounge will be here to stay for the next decade or so until SQ moves over to T5. I took the opportunity to check out the lounge before my flight to Taiwan.

Access Requirements

The KrisFlyer Gold Lounge is open 24 hours. Currently, all Star Alliance premium cabin customers, KrisFlyer Gold status and Star Alliance Status holders are allowed access to the lounge. This lounge is catered to Star Alliance Gold members who are flying in economy class. Premium cabin passengers, as well as PPS Club members, are invited to the SilverKris Lounge. Typical access rules for guests follow.

Arrival & Location

The KrisFlyer Gold Lounge is located a level above the main terminal. After passing the immigration hall you can head left and go straight up the elevator. I was welcomed in by the staff and entered upon presenting my boarding pass. I also realised that the lounge seems to be staffed by a combination of Singapore Airlines and SATS staff instead.

The new lounge was bright and fresh. It opens up to the terminal, allowing tons of natural light in. You can get views of the tarmac. The lounge consists of one space. There are various partitions to segregate into various seating areas. It helps in making it more private. The seating is in groups and very comfortable. Power outlets are readily available with USB ports too.

Nearer to the entrance, there are some high-top seatings. These also come with wireless charging pads.

The main buffet counter is located in the centre of the lounge. Here you can find more seatings that are better suitable for dining.

Towards the end of the lounge, there are these productivity pods. These are great for solo travellers. They offer a huge amount of privacy.

There is some additional seating on the sides as well. These are very quiet and might come in handy if it gets too crowded during peak hours.

Toilets and Showers

Showers and toilets have been drastically improved from the old lounge. The toilets are sparkling new and constantly maintained.

I did not manage to look at the shower rooms this time. They were all taken up when I was in the lounge. I shall share my thoughts from the previous visit. One of the main improvements of the KrisFlyer Gold Lounge now is that it comes with its dedicated toilet and showers. This is a nice touch and a huge improvement. With Singapore being a transit hub between regional flights and late-night Europe and US flights, showers are extremely crucial. This is something that I will appreciate in a lounge after a long travel day.

Food and Drinks

It was breakfast service when I visited. I have to say that it is lacklustre and disappointing. There isn’t much. You have some congee, chwee kueh, scrambled eggs and dim sum. You can also find the signature SQ laksa. Everything is self-serviced. They could have at least included some prawns. How much extra cost would that be?

There are some coffee machines and TWG packaged tea. You can also find some soft drinks, juice boxes, beers and soft drinks. There are also some spirits. The quality is very bad! Especially those Marigold juice boxes? How can you be serving your premium customers this? No improvement after all these years!

Conclusion

Frequent flyer elite members are second-tier over here in Singapore. The KrisFlyer Gold Lounge was created to alleviate the crowding issue in the SilverKris Business Class Lounge. As such, you are relegated to this lounge if you are flying in Economy or Premium Economy Class. The lounge has been expanded to fit the demand and solve the crowding issue. It also looks much better and brighter. This lounge might be more comfortable during peak periods as the SKL is crowded. They can further polish and improve the dining aspect.
