I will base myself in Hobart for my time over here in Tasmania and stay here for three nights. It is a pretty small place and definitely lacking in terms of properties over here. Hilton is definitely not having a huge footprint over here. They only have 1 property in the whole of Tasmania. Besides the DT, I am also considering The Tasman, which is more or less the best property in town. I decided not to splurge since I will be out of the hotel most of the day. It is more or less just to shower and sleep. The DT also has a pretty good location, too, since it is right in the heart of the city and very central. The pricing is also good since this is sort of a medium season. Let’s see how things are.
Booking Process & Pre Arrival
I will be staying here for 3 nights and got the base-level guest room. Before my check-in, I got an automated upgrade to their Deluxe Water View room. This is a great upgrade, seeing how this is the best room available over here. There are no suites in this hotel. This room would have cost around 260 AUD per night if booked directly. The main difference between the rooms over here would be the view. The hotel has a parking facility that guests can use for 35 AUD a night with in and out privileges. Do note that once you ask for parking access, they will charge it to your room already, regardless of whether you use it. You can also use street parking with lots just opposite the hotel. It is free in the evening and easy to find lots. DoubleTree by Hilton Hobart features 206 guest rooms spread across 5 categories. You can find the breakdown below.
| Rooms | Bathtub | Room Size |
|---|---|---|
| Guest | No | 23 Sqm |
| Guest Mountain View | No | 23 Sqm |
| Guest Water View | No | 24 Sqm |
| Deluxe | No | 27 Sqm |
| Deluxe Water View | No | 25 Sqm |
Checking In
I had a rather late arrival over here. I got in at the airport at around 7.45pm. By the time we got the luggage and rental car sorted, it was close to 8pm when we drove to the city. The drive was quite easy, and we pulled up to the driveway to unload the bags first. There is no bellboy or staff to assist us. This seems pretty weird for a Doubletree. I decided to park on the street since it fits my plan, and parking is free. We got the check in sorted, and they also offered the signature cookies. Diamond members also get a welcome drink voucher that we can use at the bar during our stay.
Deluxe Room with Water View
I was assigned a room on the sixth floor. I got room 627, which is just around the corner from the elevator. This is the best available category here, which comes with a gorgeous water view of Hobart. The room measures a lovely 25 Sqm. Right upon entering the room, you can find the wardrobe to the left, which comes with everything that you might need for the stay. There is a safe, a bathrobe, and bath slippers. The open concept wardrobe area also comes with plenty of hangers.
Next to it is a space for your baggage and the minibar area. It comes with a mini fridge that is left empty for your use. There are two bottles of drinking water provided for your use. These are not replenished during your stay. There is also a kettle and some packaged tea provided. The luggage storage area could fit a medium-sized bag well. Anything bigger, you’ve got to use a portable stand or the sofa.
On the other side of the entrance is the bathroom. The bathroom is spacious. It is on the bigger side of things. It comes with a standing shower as well as a toilet. There is only a single sink with plenty of counter space. I do love the ledge, which increases storage area for your loose items. Toiletries are in large pump-size bottles from Crabtree and Evelyn, as usual.
I love the standing shower area; it comes with both a handheld shower head and a rainshower. The water pressure and temperature control are decent.
Moving back to the main space of the room, you can find the rectangular layout of the room. There is a sofa here which is good enough to be a bed for the little one. It can also be a space for extra storage.
Mounted on the wall is a high-quality smart screen TV that comes with a good number of both local and international cable TV channels. You can also use Chromecast and connect your device to cast content. This can come in pretty handy.
On the other side, you can find the plush king-size bed mattress. The mattress is firm enough, but I am not a fan of the sheets and blankets, which retain heat too well and can get really hot in the night. Flanking both sides of the bed are nightstands with controls for the lighting and power outlets.
In the corner of the room, the circular desk works as both the working desk and the dining table. The accompanying chair provides decent back support for a short period of working. All sorts of plugs are located within reach. The Wi-Fi also works very well in the room itself.
The highlight of the room is definitely the view, which is very spectacular. It comes with a gorgeous sunrise over the mountain ranges and the water. They look pristine. This is so gorgeous!
Breakfast at Leatherwood Bar & Kitchen
Breakfast is offered here from 6.30am to 10am daily. This is extended till 10.30am on weekends. I was down for breakfast at 8am. It is served at their hotel restaurant on the ground floor. There was a small crowd, but it certainly gets much more crowded later on. I was warmly welcomed by the staff and shown to a table. Breakfast is very homely. It is pretty good and contains hot items as well. In contrast to properties in Australia, there is no upgrade for elite members over here. It comes with a good selection of fresh fruits, yogurts, cut fruits, juices, pastries and cheese. For hot food-wise, they have typical western selections such as bacon, sausage, baked beans and eggs.
They do not have an egg station over here, but rather there is only poached eggs, scrambled eggs and fried eggs by the buffet line. It is a very good breakfast to kick-start your day for a road trip. Excellent when included, especially when you are driving out.
Conclusion
The only Hilton option in Tasmania. I really wish that they could expand the footprint over here. This stay fits my requirements and gets the work done. I did not spend much time here since we are out of the city most of the time. It is really just to sleep and shower every day. The location is pretty central as well. It is a good base to explore the city and Tasmania if you are based in Hobart. The next time I am back in Hobart, I might want to give The Tasman a try, as that seems to be the best hotel in town.
