Birthday Trips > Birthday Parties!

That is the latest trend! Gone are the days of having birthday parties where you ask yourself if you enjoyed it. Going on a birthday trip is now the choice to go for! I decided to celebrate my big 30 over in Galle, where I booked the Skye House. The Skye House is located in Habaraduwa and close to the historical town of Galle. The beachfront villa comes with its own private beach with 5 en-suite bedrooms. This is a rather special property, and I am glad to try something new this time around. I would love to share this amazing property with you. While it can cost up to 3050 USD a night, this is perfect for a laid-back vacation in huge groups. It can fit up to 14 pax. The villa comes with a complement of staff and your exclusive private chef.

Booking and Rates

All villas have a minimum of 2-night bookings for most of the year. It is an all-inclusive price for the use of the villa facilities and the staff. A 10% service fee is added. They are pretty flexible on check-in and check-out if occupancy permits. The rates fluctuate between 950 USD and 3050 USD depending on the dates. You can check the actual rate for your date here. I will be staying here for 5 nights. For more detailed terms and conditions, you can visit this page.

Pre Arrival

After booking your stay, you can contact them to inform them of any specific requirements and arrangements that you might want. They are very flexible with this, and you can arrange for anything you want them to prepare ahead of your stay. Also, download the Vamoos App to access the villa page. It will contain much valuable information for your stay. You can plan your meals or any activities that you might want. This can range from excursions and transfers.

Checking In

I landed at Colombo airport at around 9.30pm. Most of the flight timings are pretty bad for the Singapore to Colombo route, with most flights arriving in the late evening. Depending on your schedule, it might be more cost-efficient to stay in Colombo before heading to Galle the next morning to avoid the extra night cost. It is about a 2-hour drive from Colombo Airport to the villa. I arranged a transfer with the villa, which cost 37000 LKR. I went for it even though Trip.com offers a slightly cheaper rate. I figure that it is better to get a familiar driver since they know the route, which can be crucial at night. You will pay this in cash. Getting back to Colombo, I got a transfer from Klook, which was cheaper, and I can pay by card.

The traffic was very smooth, and the roads are very well built over here. We got to the villa close to midnight. Sam, the villa chef and manager, was there to welcome us. It is very informal here. We were welcomed with some refreshing cold towels and juice. They then give us a little introduction to the place. They also helped us with our bags. Let me show you some pictures of the villa.

This is my favourite part of the villa. The staff and Sam here are impeccable. You will be well taken care of by the team. You can decide and plan your meals anyway you fancy! The team will be happy to surprise you, too. Do let them know of any dietary requirements you may have. Chef Sam has designed a Menu to showcase his talents using the best of local fresh ingredients to produce creative and delicious meals. Equally happy with Italian dishes, to fire up a BBQ on the beach, or cook up a wicked curry. If you have any specific preference, you can inform Sam too. It works on a float system, and everything you consume is based on an ingredients-only basis, plus transport. You can start with a float with Sam, and he will provide you with all the receipts for the items bought. Let me share some of the meals we had over here. We also went on a shopping trip with Sam and got a sight of the local fish market.

In between the meals, we also sometimes got them to make us snacks and drinks such as fresh juices. Everything is housemate and so fresh. I love all the meals we had, they are so good! I got some wines over from duty-free and enjoyed them over the course of my stay. Over our stays here, we spent about 98,000 LKR on meals. Budget around 50 SGD per person per day for 3 meals. This really depends on what you ask the team to prep. Clearly, it will not be this figure if you want lobster every meal. I would say our spending is on the higher side.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed my time over here. It is so laid back, quiet and relaxing. The perfect setting for crossing into my 30s. I would highly recommend it if you can swing. The place is perfect for large groups of friends and families. Sam’s cooking is impeccable. I enjoyed all the meals here, and it is, in fact, even nicer than the ones I had in Galle’s best restaurant. It would be perfect for 3 to 4 nights, in my opinion. I did wish for them to improve the wifi, water pressure, handheld shower head and have a TV in the main living room. Standard amenities like Netflix and other apps should be provided. While it might seem daunting given the prices, if you split it per person, it might not be that bad. Let me know if you are keen to come here for a stay! I might be able to swing you a special deal! It is so nice having the ocean right in front of you and hearing the sound of the waves crashing.
