Keeping in line with my theme of this trip, which is a finale run with my lovely KrisFlyer Gold status before it expires, I am here taking an impromptu trip to Hong Kong with an affordable economy ticket to extract anything I can leave from the status. This will probably be my very last time in this lounge on an economy ticket. I am sure I can get the opportunity to do so with a premium-class ticket in the future. Back to the basics, this is defacto the lounge for economy class passengers with status. I should check it out and provide an update. This is a lounge unique to Singapore, SQ hubs to alleviate the traffic and also to save cost. They have it in both Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Some might even find this facility better given how busy and chaotic the SilverKris Lounge can get during peak hours. You can find my old review of the facility over here. To keep it simple, I will just insert some new pictures of the current facility.
Access Requirements
The KrisFlyer Gold Lounge is open 24 hours. Currently, all Star Alliance premium cabin customers, KrisFlyer Gold status and Star Alliance Status holders are allowed access to the lounge. This lounge is catered to Star Alliance Gold members who are flying in economy class. Premium cabin passengers, as well as PPS Club members, are invited to the SilverKris Lounge. Typical access rules for guests follow.
Arrival & Location
The KrisFlyer Gold Lounge is located a level above the main terminal. After passing the immigration hall you can head left and go straight up the elevator. I was welcomed in by the staff and entered upon presenting my boarding pass. I also realised that the lounge seems to be staffed by a combination of Singapore Airlines and SATS staff instead.

Toilets and Showers
Showers and toilets have been drastically improved from the old lounge. The toilets are sparkling new and constantly maintained. It is nice that they have a shower facility right now. This is handy and a must-have especially for Singapore and the flights that depart from you. It will be super useful for transiting guests and guests departing straight after work on a long haul. I always appreciate having this. They have a total of 3 showers all on a first come first serve basis.
The lounge also has its toilets, which is always appreciated to have over here, even though the facilities at Changi are pretty top-notch and well-maintained already.
Food and Drinks
Except for the laksa counter live station, everything else is on the buffet counter and self-service. They have reduced some of the items here to make it more cost-effective as compared to the SilverKris Lounge. I mean they do not need to go the extra mile since these are not their most premium customers. It does suck a little knowing that you have spent 50,000 butt in miles and they can’t even provide some frozen prawns in your laksa. How much could this cost? They are not even some gigantic fresh tiger prawns!
I got here just as breakfast service was finishing up and got the lunch service as well. There are some local favourite that are always appearing on the buffet line up such as the beehoon and chwee kueh. I will let the pictures do the rest of the speaking.
Drinks-wise consists of some TWG tea and coffee machines. It is nice that they still have TWG here but the selection is smaller over here. Non-alcoholic beverages are mostly the same with similar soft drinks and the iconic marigold juices.
Alcoholic drinks are largely different, there are draft beers and Tiger canned beers here, some wine from the dispensing bridge and spirits. Do note that Champagne is not offered over here. I am sure that they could do with some sparkling wine.
Conclusion
To be very frank, this is a rather disappointing lounge, especially in terms of the food and beverage offerings. The cost-cutting is very extreme. This does not fair well for a standard Star Alliance lounge. I did love the vibes and the furniture which makes the spot very nice to relax and wait for your flight. It is nice to have access to the shower facilities too just in case you need them. Food-wise, you are better off in one of the Priority Pass restaurants out there. The quality at Wolfgang and ASK is leaps better. I hope that things will be different when Terminal 5 comes around. Perhaps they could have one slightly better exclusive facility for SQ’s own Economy Class or KrisFlyer Gold members.
