A restaurant with one Michelin star is recognized for having “high-quality cooking” and is considered a worthwhile destination for a meal.

I have had numerous amazing meals in Shanghai but I figure that this is worth a solo post by itself. Ren He Guan has two outlets in town. One of them is awarded a Michelin star 4 years in a row. I was keen to try Shanghainese food for the first time and no place is better than Shanghai! Ren He Guan is frequently mentioned as one of the best to do so. The prices were also rather affordable. I managed to get a reservation and went on to try it during my time in Shanghai.

Reservations

The restaurant opens for lunch from 11am to 2pm and dinner from 5pm to 9.30pm. They start at 4pm on weekends. You can find the restaurant at 407 Zhaojiabang Road, Xuhui, Shanghai, China Mainland. I made my reservations through a concierge. It is pretty challenging to do so. You can also try connecting with them through WeChat or Meituan. It can get packed with how popular the spot is. Reservations are recommended.

I hope that this guide will be useful if you are planning to dine here at Ren He Guan. This is one of the more popular and highly recommended restaurants in Shanghai. Information is hard to find outside China and if you know how to since these are not available on Google. Getting reservations might be challenging too unless you know some form of Chinese and know how to use WeChat. If not, you will be better off getting a concierge or your hotel to make one. It is regretful that we did not get to try the famous braised pork. Please add a note to your reservations for them to save you a portion. Prices are really good. This is my first time trying Shanghainese food. I won’t say that it is my favourite but it is a good try! There was quite a crowd when we dined here. The food is excellent!
