After spending the first two nights in the usual Sukhumvit area, I moved to Samyan. This is more unique and historical. It is between the river, yaowarat and the typical shopping area of MBK – Siam. It is nice getting out of the horrible traffic of Sukhumvit. I will be checking out dusitD2 Samyan. It is one of the newest hotels in Bangkok and the first d2 concept of Dusit in the city. This is the upscale branding arm of the hotel chain. I appreciate them for inviting me. The location is great for checking out the Chao Phraya area, the food stretch of Chulalongkorn and the Yaowarat area. You are also not too far away from the MBK and Siam area. I will share more later on.
Booking Process & Pre Arrival
I will be staying at dusitD2 for two nights. The hotel is located in the historical part of the city and the middle of everything. This makes it easy to travel around and away from the busy traffic area of Sukhumvit. dusitD2 Samyan also offers a shuttle service to MRT Samyan Station, BTS Sala Daeng Station, River City, Banthadthong and MBK Shopping Mall. This is very handy for getting around the various points in Bangkok. You can make a reservation ahead at the reception.
Check out the shuttle schedule above. This is quite an experience riding on the modern cosy electric tuk tuk.
Seeing The World In Steps stayed as a guest of dusitD2 Samyan. I am booked into their Deluxe Room. This is the better room here other than the suite. The hotel features 179 spacious rooms and suites across 4 categories. You can find the breakdown below.
| Rooms | Bathtub | Room Size | No.of Rooms |
|---|---|---|---|
| Superior | No | 28 – 30 Sqm | 102 |
| Deluxe | No | 30 Sqm | 73 |

Checking In
I took a car from the Sukhumvit area and it took about 30 minutes or so. It is not far away but the traffic is horrendous. The ride cost around 250 THB which is pricey. I got in at around 2pm. I love the gorgeous bronze facade of the look and brand. Upon arrival, the bellboy came over to help me with my bags and ushered me over to the reception desk which is located to the right.
The cosy lobby area comes with some seating at the side. The decor was top-notch. I love the wavy style of the ceilings and the background with traditional Thai decor. I was immediately helped by the guest relations and a staff member came over with welcome drinks. The butterfly pea flower lemonade was refreshing.
I was warmly assisted by the staff at check-in and immediately helped with my reservations. The staff then went through all the details for breakfast and facilities. I requested a late checkout and was offered 1pm. Everything in the hotel is impeccable with it only being about a year plus old. The dusitD2 opened back in May last year.
Deluxe Room
I was assigned a room on the 17th floor. My deluxe room was a short walk away from the elevators. It is at the end of the corridor. They have a small footprint per floor with only 8 rooms per level. This is the best category of room here and a level above the usual superior room. I love the warm wood finish and warm soft lighting. It feels very cosy with the open concept. This reminds me of the AKI M Gallery Hotel I stayed in prior in Hong Kong.
The Deluxe Room measures a spacious 30 Sqm. You have the wardrobe immediately after entering towards the right. This is spacious and comes with everything you require for your stay ranging from a safe to ironing kit, hangers, bathrobes and bath slippers.
Next to it is a luggage storage area which could fit nicely a mid-size suitcase. Additional portable racks are also available upon request.
On the left, you can find the open-concept bathroom. I love the design and look of the place. This is one of my favourite places in the room. It has sliding doors on both sides that you can extend for privacy or when needed. When left open, it makes the entire room much more spacious. This is an amazing configuration.
The bathroom comes with a single sink and plenty of counter space. That is a very gorgeous mirror. All sorts of amenities are provided and bottles of drinking water here if you prefer. Toiletries are in large pump-size bottles and from MALIN + GOETZ. This is one of my favourite brands out there. I love the mint shampoo. It is commonly seen in Le Meridien hotels.
The toilet and standing shower are found in separate rooms. I like the fully enclosed shower concept as it prevents water from getting all around. Water pressure and temperature control are excellent and I had a great shower.
The main space of the room is nicely appropriated with a generous amount of space for 2 pax, stretching to 3. The minibar is found with a kettle and all sorts of glassware. There is also a fully stocked mini fridge below that comes with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Left on it is a welcome amenity consisting of some fruits and snacks.
The plush king-size bed is the centrepiece of the room. The mattress is top-notch and offers amazing back support. I slept well. The bedsheets are very smooth and high quality. I love that the pillows provide great neck support and I even got some harder ones that work well for my neck. Flanking both sides of the bed, you can find nightstands. There is an alarm clock on one side of it. They have thoughtfully installed an international adapter plug, a local one and USB ports for charging on both sides of the bed. Controls for the lighting are also nicely designed within reach.
In the corner, you can find a circular table with a chair that works as both the dining table and the working desk. It is a decent size with all sorts of ports and plugs.
Mounted on the wall is a high-quality large 55-inch Smart TV. It is a gem to watch and a perfect size when viewed from the bed. It comes with numerous local and international TV channels. The Chromecast works well and you can connect from your Apple devices to cast contents too. This is so often mislooked by hotels. The setup is top-notch on this.
By the side of the window, you can find a lazing daybed. This will be great for lazing and catching the view. It can also be a sleeping area for the little one. I love the backdrop on the wall.
The room comes with a lovely unblocked view of the surrounding area.
Fitness Centre
The fully equipped fitness centre is located on the 16th floor and operates 24 hours a day. It is a well-maintained facility with cardio machines, weights, yoga mats and bikes. The gym offers a great view of the surrounding area and Bangkok city skyline. You can find towels and water provided.
Pool
The pool is similarly located on the 16th floor. It is not overly big but the regular size does allow for laps to be done. It is a nice space with sunbeds by the side. Towels and water are provided. There is also a pool bar where you can order drinks and pool by the side. The pool is open from 7am to 10pm daily.
The pool bar also offers additional seating. I love the vibes here and this will be great to chill off in the sweltering heat of Bangkok. You can check out the menu over here.
Breakfast at Dusit Gourmet
Breakfast is served at located on level 2. This is the hotel’s main signature restaurant. You can also access the restaurant via the spiral staircase. Breakfast is served from 6.30am to 10.30am. This is extended till 11am on the weekends. I love how bright and cosy the place is. The vibes are excellent with the bronze finishing.
Breakfast costs 700 THB for 2 pax if not included in your rate or status. I went down to have breakfast at around 8.30am. Breakfast is served buffet style with an egg station to order. I love the concept here where you can order table side with a slip rather than everyone queueing up at the counter. They also have a special dish for the day.
Here are some of the items that are available by the buffet line. I love the noodle station. Having a hot bowl of noodles in the morning is a great way to kick start your day is great.
I wouldn’t say the selection is overly huge, but it is far more than enough for a morning in Bangkok to start your day. Everything is so fresh and delicious. I love their trimmings and the egg station. Special mentions also to the pancakes. There are some slight changes to the breakfast from day to day.
Conclusion
I can see myself loving the dusitD2 brand. This was a very nice stay. I love the concept and the brand. I am looking forward to checking out more D2 in the world as well as the upcoming Dusit Thani that is opening later this month in Bangkok. This is such a great brand with huge potential. I highly recommend this hotel and the area if you want something different from the usual Sukhumvit area that you are accustomed to. You are not too far away from everything. The breakfast was lovely and I enjoyed it. This is one of the best hotels I stayed in Bangkok so far. Check out dusitD2 Samyan if you have plans to head over. They have some perks for booking directly and being a member.
