There are three Hilton properties in the Perth CBD area. There is a Hilton and two DoubleTree. All of them are rather centrally located. Furthermore, the Perth CBD area isn’t overly huge and very walkable. There is also a free bus to take within the city centre. Rates for the properties are pretty high since Coldplay just had a concert the weekend prior. I decided to just go for the DoubleTree near Northbridge since it is at the centre of everything. The rooms also look rather nice from the pictures and better than the Parmelia which feels quite dated. I will also get to enjoy some further discounts as AMEX was offering some credits during the time of my stay. I was staying previously at the InterContinental Perth City Centre which is very lovely.
Booking Process & Pre Arrival
I booked directly with Hilton for the stay and made full use of an Amex promotion that was running at the point of my stay. I got the base-level rooms. With the credits that Amex was giving up, I paid just 385 SGD for my 2 nights stay. I also got upgraded in advance to the best category in the hotel, the Junior Suite. This is excellent elite recognition and a nice touch. Times like this make me feel worthwhile to go out of my way constantly to clock my Diamond Status. Do take note that this property does not have a parking facility but there are a couple of public ones nearby. DoubleTree by Hilton Perth Northbridge comes with 206 guest rooms and suites spread across 4 categories. You can check out the breakdown below.
| Rooms | Bathtub | Room Size | No.of Rooms |

| Guest Panoramic View Deluxe | No | 30 Sqm | 80 |

Checking In
I arrived at the hotel rather early in the morning as I wanted to drop off my bags before heading off to Swan Valley and Pinnacles for the day. This is another reason why I do not want to splurge on something more like the Hilton, etc since I will be out more of the time. The hotel doesn’t have a driveway or so but you can pull up to stop for a while to unload your bags. Upon arrival, the staff came over to help me with my bags. Northbridge feels much more quirky and happening than the neighbourhood I was last in.
The lobby is pretty nice with some seating towards the side. I was immediately helped by Manuela who was lovely and gave me all the information. My room is not ready yet which was expected but I am just dropping off my baggage. I was also informed that a full breakfast would be provided for elite members. This is great as usually in this part of the world, it requires an upcharge of 10 AUD / 10 NZD. Check-in took a while since there was an issue with the charge but we got it all sorted out. I came back in the late evening to get my key cards and the baggage was already left in my suite. I got one of those signature cookies and they were delicious. They also offered some welcome drink vouchers for Diamond members.
Junior Suite with Panoramic View
I was assigned a suite on the 15 floor, suite 1501 to be exact. This is one out of 4 in the entire hotel and the highest category over here. It is a short walk away from the elevators. The Junior Suite measures 45 Sqm. Upon entering you have a spacious entranceway. I love the traditional layout which allows for great utilization of the space. Right to the right you can find the luggage storage area which can fit a full-size suitcase well.
The wardrobe is spacious and well-equipped with all sorts of amenities for your stay. It comes with plenty of hangers, ironing kit, bathrobes and bath slippers. Inside there is also a safe.
Check out the huge bathroom. This is nicely set up. It is in a long rectangular layout with a huge window panel that allows you to open up to the view outside. Blinds are available for those who require additional privacy. The toilets and showers are in separate rooms. There is also a huge freestanding bathtub. It is good enough for 2 and makes for a relaxing soak.
The bathroom comes with only a single sink and amenities are from Crabtree and Evelyn in large pump-size bottles. This is the standard brand in DT hotels. The standing shower room is huge. There is a handheld shower head and a rainforest one. Temperature control is good but water pressure can be improved.
Given that this is a Junior Suite, everything is in a single room. By the side of the wall, you have the minibar area. It comes with complimentary bottles of water, a kettle and instant coffee and tea. I am disappointed not to see a proper Nespresso coffee machine here.
Facing the bed is a smart screen TV mounted on the wall. It comes with a good number of both cable and local channels. You can also cast content from your phone.
The working desk comes with 2 office chairs. It is a spacious space and allows it to act as a dining table as well. Power outlets are nicely designed within reach and the wide connection is very strong.
The suite comes with a view of the surrounding area and being that high up, it is rather lovely. The curtains and sheers are manually controlled.
On the other side of the suite is the plush king-size bed. The mattress is great and has a nice firm touch to it which offers decent back support. Plenty of pillows are provided and we got some firmer ones on request too. Nightstands are located on both sides with power outlets and switches for the lights.
Right in front of the bed is a couch that is good for 2 pax. This can also be a bed for the little ones.
Fitness Centre
The Fitness Centre is located on Level 3 and is open 24 hours. It comes with a view of the pool area and the surrounding area. It comes with everything that you might require for a workout. Nothing too fancy here but does get the work done. Water and towels are provided.
Pool
The hotel comes with an outdoor heated pool that is similarly located on the 3rd level. This allows it to be used all year long. It certainly didn’t need to be heated when I was here. It is open from 6am to 6pm. The pool isn’t overly huge but the regular configuration does allow for laps to be done. You can also order some drinks by the side.
This is a great spot to work up a tan and you certainly have enough share of the sun in this part of the world.
James Bar
I drop by here during my stay to enjoy the welcome drinks vouchers. You can choose anything on draft and you get a small pint for each voucher. The bartender is a really lovely lady. The food and drinks prices are fair. Gold and Diamond members also currently enjoy a 25% discount. The beers are around 9 to 13 AUD. I love the vibes here and if you are stopping by on Fri and Sat, there will be live music in the evenings.
Breakfast at James St Kitchen
Breakfast is served at James St Kitchen which is located just next to the reception area. Breakfast for in-house guests starts from 6.30 am to 10am on weekdays and from 7am on weekends. 10am feels a little too early. Breakfast costs 32 AUD if not included in your rate or membership. Full breakfast is offered for Gold and Diamond members. That is appreciated as usually an upcharge is required for a full breakfast in this part of the world.
Here are some pictures of the selections. I love that they had a juicer where you can make your own freshly squeezed juice to kick start your day. This is something that I love to see at a hotel breakfast. Subpar juice or sugar water are a no-go. It is worth noting that they only offer brewed coffee and barista-made drinks require an additional charge.
Conclusion
I enjoyed my stay here and was well-treated by the team. Elite recognition is excellent. It might have helped that I am staying during the low season. I love the location and you are in the centre of everything. There are also numerous nice Chinese restaurants in the area. This place is worth considering for the price and quality that you get. Awesome!
