I certainly learned the lesson the hard way. When I was on adrenaline while booking an error fare. I overlooked that I would be flying out from Los Angeles Ontario Airport instead of the usual Los Angeles International Airport! What a mistake! Ontario is literally another city and almost 1 hour away from DTLA. My initial thinking was to get something simple and affordable since I am checking out at 5 am. The Hilton options are too expensive. I came upon this new Marriott property in the area. It is always nice to be staying in somewhere new. It is also only 10 minutes away from the airport. This work well for my 6am flight the next day. That turned out to be the right decision since I went straight to the mall, had dinner, shower and slept. I stayed for less than 10 hours in the room. It is one of the more affordable hotels in the area.
Booking Process & Pre Arrival
I booked directly with Marriott Bonvoy for this stay and got the base-level guest room for around 176 SGD a night after tax. Yes! You read that correctly! This is how expensive hotels are in the States. I will be just staying here for 1 night. Fairfield Inn & Suites Ontario Rancho Cucamonga features 108 guest rooms and suites. There are only two categories here. Room or Suite. Both comes with options for a king-size bed or two queen beds.
Checking In
I arrived at the hotel at about 2.30pm. It took me about an hour to get here from DTLA. I took an Uber that cost a whooping US$70. This is all due to my fat fingers for this costly mistake. The exterior was original, just like any typical American hotel. I was warmly welcomed by Vanessa who was working the reception. It did take some time for the processing and we had a lovely banter. I was then provided with some information about the hotel such as the facilities and complimentary breakfast. I love that they had included some information on the eateries nearby.
The lobby area was fairly simple. You can find some seating by the side and a TV. The area does get plenty of natural light. They also have a computer in the lobby area for guest’s use.
King Room
I was assigned room 310 which is a short walk away from the elevators. I quite like the room. It is not overly huge but well-appropriate. Everything is well maintained given how new the place is. This is my first ever stay at a Fairfield Inn & Suites. The brightness and decor here are a very welcoming sight from the usual yellow and tired-looking American hotels that I am used to.
The bathroom is of a good size. It looks gorgeous. I love the mirror and lighting feature. It comes with plenty of counter space. There is a hair dryer below the sink.
The bathroom comes with a standing shower. I did like how clean and well-maintained the place is. It doesn’t come with my ideal configurations since they only had a shower head mounted on the wall. They did install a glass door here rather than those disgusting shower curtains. Water pressure and temperature control are very good. Toiletries are from a brand called North 39. It lathers well. I love the stimulating eucalyptus and lavender scent.
Heading into the room, you can see the entire place in one look. The room is squarish in configuration. Between the entranceway and the room is the mini-bar setup. It comes with a coffee machine, an ice bucket and a microwave. This will come in handy for long stays.
The open-concept wardrobe is right next to it. I love the full-length mirror that you can use to check out the fit. It comes with some hooks for your outerwear and plenty of hangers for your clothes. There is also an ironing kit here. I am surprised by the lack of a safe.
Along the wall, there is a luggage rack that is big enough for a carry-on. Next to it is a huge working table. It is perfect for working and dining too. It comes with an armchair. Power outlets are installed within reach and the Wi-Fi connection is pretty strong. On the wall is a huge smart TV. The screen is of a good quality and size for the room. It comes with tons of local and international cable TV channels. You can also cast content from your devices to it. It comes with all the apps and platforms like Netflix.
On the opposite side, we can find a plush king-size bed alongside plenty of pillows. The set-up is lovely. Outlets are within reach on both sides and I am glad to see that they have USB ports installed too. Sadly, lighting isn’t centrally controlled. The mattress and bedding are good. It offers great back support and I had a nice rest.
The room doesn’t come with any view that is worth mentioning. I kept the curtains drawn.
Pool
The hotel comes with an outdoor pool on the ground floor. It is just beside the restaurant. This is a nice spot to soak up some of that California sun. It is not huge but the regular shape does make it conducive to getting some laps in for a workout.
Fitness Centre
The gym is also located on the ground floor. It is a rather small facility but well-maintained and new. It comes with plenty of natural light but not much of a view. It just faces the parking lot. Water and towels are provided. There are some exercise balls, yoga mats, treadmills and bikes. It is fairly basic but gets the work done. The gym is open 24 hours.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served at the restaurant just off the lobby. At Fairfield Inn & Suites, complimentary breakfast is offered to all guests. Breakfast service is from 6am to 9am on weekdays and 7am to 11am on weekends. I did not manage to check it out and enjoy breakfast given how early I left the hotel.
Conclusion
I came upon this new property in the area. It is always nice to be staying in somewhere new. My initial thinking is to just get something simple and affordable since I am checking out at 5 am. That turned out to be the right decision since I went to the mall, had dinner, shower and slept. I stayed for less than 8 hours in the room. I enjoyed the stay. The room was well-appropriate and new. I will have no qualms about coming back here the next time in the area. It is great for accessing the outlet mall opposite Ontario Airport.
