There are a couple of Star Alliance lounge options in Narita Airport. This is an ANA hub. I am surprised to see a United Club over here. I pass by it right after landing and decided to check it out before making my way to the ANA lounge. This lounge is huge and comes with great tarmac views. The decor is pretty lovely and comparing this to the ANA lounge, it might be a tat more comfortable since the ANA lounge is constantly overcrowded. They also have usable wifi. I check out the lounge briefly.

Access Requirements

The United Club is open from 8.45am to 8.45pm daily. Currently, all Star Alliance premium cabin customers, Star Alliance Status holders, United Club / Air Canada Maple Leaf Club members, and MileagePlus credit card membership members are allowed access to the lounge. Typical access rules for guests follow.

Arrival & Location

After clearing security, I was led back into the transit area. You can find the United Club after the duty-free shops near Gate 31. There are signs showing the location and direction of the lounge.

United Club Tokyo Narita International Airport

The United Club is surprisingly huge. It is much bigger than I expected. It certainly makes me wonder why are they having such huge operations in Narita. I was warmly welcomed by the receptionist who welcomed me in after scanning my boarding pass.

The lounge looks rather welcoming and I love the decor of the main seating area. The soft and mellow design feels homey and comfortable. There is plenty of seating around the lounge. I love the use of partitions around the large space to make it more private. Here are some pictures of the seating area.

The lounge also comes with a good view of the tarmac! The natural light coming in makes the place even more welcoming.

There are power outlets around the lounge and seating. Wi-Fi is available around the lounge and the connection is good. The speed is decent and you can use it. As compared to the ANA lounge where you can’t get a connection at all.

Toilets and Showers

I got a look at the toilets and showers. There is no wait for the showers, so that is a good thing to be prepared to wait pretty long if you want to use a shower over at the ANA lounge. In comparison to the rest of the lounge, this looks like a scene out of the 1970s. I am not digging into those tiles look.

The showers are located in individual rooms and they are spacious. All sorts of amenities and single-use toiletries are provided.

Food and Drinks

You can find the main refreshments in the corner of the lounge. Everything is self-served. This is in my opinion the most lacking aspect of the lounge. The selection is pretty bad. I was here in the afternoon. There are some cold cuts, a salad station, sushi, curry chicken, dim sum and a hot dish.

There are both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks options in the lounge. You can find a typical Japanese beer machine, spirits, red wine, white wine and sparkling wine. There are also a soda fountain and infused water.

Conclusion

I enjoy this lounge. It is a lot better than expected. It certainly has some advantages over the ANA Lounges which is the main Star Alliance lounge over here in Narita. I appreciate the size of the lounge and it comes with a really good view of the tarmac. The wifi here is also a lot better than ANA lounge which is unusable. They still have room to make up in terms of food and drinks. It is a comfortable place to wait for your flight. Sadly, I am not going to review the ANA lounge as it is way too crowded for me to get nice pictures of the place.
