I have just shared my stay at the Hilton Queenstown Resort & Spa and have written extensively on my stay in the Lake Wakatipu Suite as well as the hotel facilities, including the restaurant and breakfast offering. You can check that out here. I stayed in the suite for the first three nights of my stay before moving to the Relaxation Room. The Relaxation Room is marketed at a higher rate and category, above the Lake Wakatipu Suite. It is the most spacious room and comes with an outdoor tub. It usually goes for around 600 NZD a night. I paid for an upgrade here for 108 NZD which I find to be rather attractive. I will simply share my thoughts on the room. Given the low number of them, I will not be expected to be upgraded to this category on account of being a Diamond member.

Once again, to recap, Hilton Queenstown Resort & Spa features 220 guest rooms, residences and suites spread across 8 categories. You can find the breakdown below.

Relaxation Room

While at first, it might not seem like the right decision to pay for an upgrade since we are going to be out most of the day but I wanted to try soaking in the hot tub while facing the amazing Lake Wakatipu. We had plans to go to the Onsen Hot Tubs nearby too. This might be a good idea since we can enjoy it in the leisure of our room. The price quoted isn’t ridiculous too. It seems like a good deal with the exchange rate and the double points promo that Hilton was running. We pack our bags and left them in our previous suite. I came back around 5pm and collected the keys to the new room. The staff have already shifted over our baggage. I was assigned room 120 which is on the ground floor in the second building. This is near the main reception area. The room is very spacious and this is one of the biggest ones here. Upon entering, you can find that the room is mainly in a long rectangular configuration with the entrance letting you out in the middle of the room. The room can be said to be separated into two areas, the living area and the bedroom area.

This could in fact be classified as a junior suite in my opinion. Right ahead by the wall, you can find a spacious wardrobe with everything that you might need for the stay from plenty of hangers to a safe and ironing kit. Bath slippers are found inside too. Right next to it is the mini bar chest equipped with a proper coffee machine and kettle. It is lovely that they had a proper coffee machine. Plenty of packaged tea and drinking water are provided. Below is an empty mini fridge left for your convenience.

Next to it, you can find the work desk. It is a spacious one and comes with an armchair. Outlets are within reach and the wifi connection is strong in the room.

The living area is very cosy and comes with seating for 3-4 people. It surrounds a coffee table and a fireplace. How cosy is this! I love the fireplace. The television is mounted on top of the fireplace. It comes with a good number of both cable and local tv channels. From here it comes with a gorgeous view of the lake and the surrounding area. Let me come back to this.

Weirdly there are two steps in between the bedroom and the living area. You can find the plush king-size bed in the middle and it is huge. The bedding and pillows are high quality and the mattress is comfy. This hits the spots and it is much firmer than the one I had in the suite previously. I had a lovely rest. On both sides of the bed, you can find nightstands. Switched for the lights are within reach and they have power outlets nearby too. I wish that they had electronically controlled blinds.

To the side of the bed, you can find a long bench which seems out of place. It does add up some storage and I mainly use it to put my bags.

The bathroom can be found next to the bed and it’s a huge one. It comes with double sinks. Amenities are from Crabtree and Evelyn as usual. The bathroom comes with a standing shower as well as a bathtub. Water pressure and temperature control are excellent.

Now let me come to the main highlight of the room and the focus. This is the one reason why I upgraded to this room. The Relaxation Room comes with an outdoor jacuzzi and two deck chairs. How lovely is this!

Having a hot soak while checking out the lake is an amazing thing to do. It is super relaxing in the hot tub with the cold weather. Sadly it was cloudy during my time here and I didn’t get to see any stars. That will be perfect. They should have this outdoor tub and jacuzzi in the suite too. There is more than enough space for it.

Conclusion

If you can swing it, the Relaxation Room is perfect! I would love to do this once again. The room might come at a premium but the upgrade cost is very reasonable. It might be worth enquiring about it if you have an upcoming stay. While I will not pay for the entire stay, a night or two might be worth it to enjoy the soak. I hope to be back one day and have stars overhead as I enjoy a leisurely soak.
