Suffice it to say, I had such an amazing time onboard my first Qsuites flight from Singapore to Doha. After touring the airport, lounges and Doha, I am back for the second part of my journey. I will be back onboard the Qsuite flying from Doha to Amsterdam. I love this so much too. After a night’s rest in Doha, I will be back at the airport. This will allow me to get a sense of their ground service in their home hub which I have heard amazing things about. It is nice for me to get both of my flights on Qsuite. To recap, I booked this ticket as part of a SIN – DOH – AMS redemption. With the 30% Avios transfer bonus, I transferred points from Citibank and paid 52,500 miles and 310.80 SGD in taxes. That’s an amazing deal from the usual 75,000 miles. Qatar does have high taxes and fees. You can check out my experience on the Singapore to Doha leg here.

Checking In

I have already checked in ahead in Singapore and got my boarding pass for both flights earlier. I had an extended transit and went out to the city. I also booked a hotel under the Qatar Stopover Program and got an awesome deal. I went back to the airport at around 5am. I got an Uber this time around which is easy enough and very affordable as compared to the taxis. It cost me only 8 QAR compared to the 44 QAR for a taxi. For Qatar premium passengers, you can drop off at Door 1.

They had butlers on hand to help you with your bags and to usher you in. The entire place felt like an exclusive terminal for Qatar First Class and Business Class passengers.

The first class check-in area is to the right and the business class ones are to the left. There are so many staff here that you will never get lost. The same goes for the counters. You will never have to wait for one. If you require one, there are sofas and seatings available. I was warmly helped by a friendly staff.

From here, you connect to the dedicated security lanes and immigration counters. I was through in less than 5 minutes. It is very efficient.

Boarding Process

We were assigned one of the B gates and it is quite a trek. I spent most of the time in the Al Mourjan Business Lounge South Doha having breakfast and also checking out the new Garden Lounge. Boarding is assigned to start at 7.25am. We got there just in time for boarding with those requiring assistance boarding first followed by premium cabin passengers. It was a rush to get some pictures of the cabin. Boarding is quite hectic here. I am surprised that they did not allow slightly more time for the premium passengers and those requiring assistance to get ready. I was warmly welcomed by the crew and shown to my seat. They also came by to introduce themself. Sing Yee who was working my aisle was excellent. We recognised each other accents and it felt quite like home since she was from Malaysia.

Welcome drinks were offered and I went with a glass of Rose. I love the Taittinger. While on the ground, the crew also came by with pyjamas. The signature Diptyque amenity kit is already left on the seat. The purser also came by to extend the personal welcome and to introduce herself. I appreciate this! Meal orders are also taken on the ground. They offer both a breakfast and lunch service. Qatar offers a dine-on-demand style.

We pushed back shortly after 8.05am and had a rather lengthy taxi before a smooth take off. The views departing from Doha are excellent.

Qatar Airways Airlines 777-300ER Qsuite Business Class

This time around I chose the window seats on the right side of the aisle. I went for seat 1F, a backwards-facing seat by the window. I wanted to try something different from the first leg. We got 1K and 2J. The Qsuite are Qatar Airways’ signature business-class product and this can be found onboard their A350-1000, 777-200LR, 700-300ER and A350-900s. As time passes, they will be found on more aircraft. Your best bet will be on the A350-1000 as all of them come with Qsuite seats. On the 777-300ER, there are 2 variants with Qsuite products. I was on the one with 42 seats across two cabins. There are a total of 11 rows. The seats are alternative between being closer to the aisle or the window/middle.

The seatings are quite complicated to understand. A, E, F & K are back-facing seats. B, D, G & J are forward-facing seats. The middle 4 seats can be converted into a Quad Suite. This will be best for groups. These are (1E, 1F, 2D, 2G), (3E, 3F, 4D, 4G), (5E, 5F, 6D, 6G), (7E, 7F, 8D, 8G) and (9E, 9F, 10D, 10G). If you want to score the true couple seats and double beds, they will be 1E & 1F, 3E & 3F, 5E & 5F, 7E & 7F, 9E & 9F and 11E & 11F. Backward-facing seats are nearer to the window. It is so nice to have three windows all to yourself and an enclosed door. Let me give you an introduction to the seat.

The seat is nearer to the window and this applies to all the back-facing seats. The console and the extra little cubby area are toward the side. The entrance to the suite is not on the generous side but it is not so squeeze that you have to enter on your side.

The console is the only proper storage area for the seat. It comes with a headphone and a bottle of water. It can hold some loose items here. For my seat, the console area or tabletop surface is located on my right nearer to the entrance. This is where you can also find the Diptyque amenity kit and a wet wipe waiting for you upon boarding. It is a nice spot to hold a laptop or some drinks.

Right below the platform are the controls for the seats. They are intuitive and easy to use. You can use the buttons to convert the seats fully flat and to adjust the recline. They also allow you to shift the seat forward and backwards to use the ottoman as a legrest. Here, you can also find the power outlet, HDMI ports and USB ports. Between the platform and the seat controls area, you have a little cubby area where you can find the menus for the flight. The space is designed for some small loose items, perhaps a phone when charging or spectacles. It is hard to fit anything else.

The Qsuite comes with a 21.5-inch entertainment screen that can be controlled by a touchscreen remote or the touchscreen itself. The screens are super high quality and a very good size for the seat. This is paired with the Qatar Oryx One inflight entertainment system, which offers plenty of options to loop around planet Earth multiple times. There are both movies and TV series. I love how the TV is mounted on the partition itself which adds up some living room flair to the place itself. These panels can be moved if you are converting the seats into a Quad.

Wi-Fi is also available! Qatar boasts one of the fastest wifi speeds in the air. Qatar Privilege members get to enjoy one hour of free wifi. That felt rather stingy. Complimentary wifi in premium cabins should be a standard amenity in my opinion. Heck, some even get it free for the economy. I did hear that they are extending soon to provide it for everyone. Wifi is the true amenity that makes time fly when you are flying.

The table slides out from under the television and the panel itself. This isn’t well designed as it can need a little getting used and force to pull out and store the table. You need to get the knack for it. The TV does work well even when you are in bed mode. This allows you to dine on the bed too. The height is not adjustable but it is nicely planned to to be a nice level when you have the seat in bed mode.

Under the table is the ottoman. This is the leg rest and also forms part of the bed when you recline your seat fully flat. It is a nice generous space for your legs and knees. It never felt tight even when I was sleeping on the side or straight. It is also very deep and I can stretch out fully without hitting the panel. I wish that they had some space for your shoes under your ottoman.

Now let’s come to the door! The stand-out aspect of the Qsuites. I love the sliding door which adds up so much in terms of privacy. Even with it not being ceiling to the floor, it helps especially when you are sleeping. The door is also very easy to operate and doesn’t take too much strength to open or close it.

Turndown service is offered by the crew. I appreciate having this on premium cabins. They nicely set up the beds. I love that they had a proper mattress pad and even a pillowcase for the pillows. The bedding was extremely comfortable and plush. The mattress pad makes so much difference and I slept so well. When you close the doors, it is cosy. Couples and small families will enjoy this. This is one of the best sleeps that I had in business class. The bed felt slightly smaller than a couple of seats in the middle. I got a nice 2.5-hour nap and woke up just 1.5 hours before landing when we were above Eastern Europe. I wish the flight was longer. Somehow, I just slept so well in Qatar.

There is a total of 4 toilets exclusive for the use of business class passengers. The toilets were alright. Some of them are larger than the rest. The toilets come with Diptyque amenities. Dental kits are available inside too. They are rather well maintained onboard this flight.

Meal Service

Qatar goes by a form of à la carte dining and you can choose to dine any time you want during the flight. You can also order everything you want. They offer both a separate wine list and menu which are left on your seat. The menus are solid and I appreciate the quality labels that they pour onboard. Right after the seat belt sign was turned off, the crew went straight into service by offering welcome drinks. I ordered one of my favourite Bordeaux wines and the mixed berry smoothie. This was served with some nuts.

You can find the menu for the flight here. Besides the inflight menu, you can also pre-order your meals prior. This only applies to your main course. It is something like SQ Book The Cook but on a much smaller scale. The selection depends on your specific flight.

I got the fruit plate to start for my breakfast meal and an Orange Juice. It might be 8am but I can’t help with having more of the Bordeaux. It is so delicious.

I got the Hand Rolled Omelette with Cheese and Roasted Tomato. This was served with chicken Cumberland sausages, mushrooms and spinach. The dish was excellent. The platting was gorgeous and I love how nicely heated the dish is. This is one of the best egg dishes I had onboard. The omelette is still very fresh and moist.

The crew also came by with hot towels and mints to end the service. I decided to have my main meal shortly before landing. I got it only 1.2 hours to landing and it is a full table service with white table cloth. SQ will never! I did not do any pre-booking but ordered from the inflight menu. I got the soup to start with and it’s delicious. The celery soup goes so well with the bread. Kudos to them for doing this because it’s not common to have a soup course in business class.

I then went with the Dill marinated tiger prawn and paprika scallop. The flavours were there but the seafood didn’t taste that fresh. They were kind of rubbery. The cherry tomato on the other hand was delicious.

For my main course, I got the Chicken Cordon Bleu. This was served with mash, asparagus and broccolini. It is pretty good and I love the mashed potatoes. The portion was huge.

My mum preordered the Lobster Thermidor prior.

I skipped desserts as I was stuffed at this point. I am very happy with the meals onboard Qatar and how efficient they are. It is always done with a full table service and not via a tray. This is something that I constantly hate about it on Singapore Airlines. It diluted the entire premium business-class experience. Sing Yee was excellent. We had a nice chat too. I finish the meal with some Le Petit Etoile.

Conclusion

While preparing the cabin for arrival, the cabin crew came by to bid farewell. The purser also came by to thank us for the flight and ask if there was any feedback to share. I love this touch and SOP. I can’t understand why Singapore Airlines can’t adopt this. The IFM is always missing in business class. Qsuite has been an amazing experience. I can’t wait to fly QSuites again. They are worth the hassle to book. I am officially hooked. I would love to try a flight to the USA with longer flight durations. It is just a little unreliable with the devaluation and the availability. On my hunt for the next Qsuite redemption!
