SKL worldwide has undergone a makeover recently with the latest and updated offerings in places like Bangkok and Seoul. The latter is one of my favourites in the world. The London Heathrow location is also in the midst of a renovation currently. I have been wanting to check out the Bangkok SKL for the longest time ever. I missed it when they were closed the previous time I flew out from BKK. I am on a journey to check out more SKL and Star Alliance Lounge around the world while I have my KF Gold status. I have heard so many good things about this lounge. BKK is a Star Alliance hub with numerous lounge offerings for Star Alliance passengers besides the flagship Thai Orchid Lounge. This is one of the reasons why I chose to come to Bangkok and to fly on Thai Airways. Lounges are a huge thing over here in BKK as the traffic and airport queues are horrendous. Passengers are advised to arrive at the earliest time possible. The lounge got a major renovation in 2017 by designers ONG&ONG before reopening at the end of 2022.

Access Requirements

The Bangkok SilverKris Lounge is open daily from 6.30am to 11pm. This virtually covers all SQ departures. It is also subject to changes, depending on SQ flight schedules. This is a standard Star Alliance Lounge. Currently, all Star Alliance premium cabin customers, KrisFlyer Elite Gold, PPS Club and Star Alliance Status holders are allowed access to the lounge. Typical access rules for guests follow. I got access on account of my KrisFlyer Gold status.

Arrival & Location

There is clear signage in the lounge. It is found a level below the main terminal floor. This is located on level 3 and opposite gate D7. The entrance is gorgeous. I love the backlit feature with the flowers. The aesthetics is on point. You can find the host of the lounge just to the side. I was warmly welcomed in after presenting my boarding pass. They were very polite and welcoming. I got here in the early afternoon. The lounge was pretty busy at this hour.

Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge Bangkok

The lounge is not overly huge and is on the smaller side. It measures 313 Sqm with half of it being a lounging area and the other half for dining. It could hold around 102 passengers which should nicely cover SQ demand and some Star Alliance passengers who choose them over the others. Upon entering, you head into the lounging area known as the living room. Seats are arranged in groups of 2 or 4. It has a very residential vibe. The furniture is well-maintained and clean.

They also have some private productivity pods along the wall. These come with a dedicated power outlet, USB charging port and reading light. They provide additional privacy as compared to the general seating.

The gorgeous bar acts as a divider between the living area and the dining area. This is also the centrepiece and highlight of the region. I will share more about this later on and the refreshment. Over here, you can find many more proper dining tables that are more suitable for dining. This includes smaller ones as well as large communal tables for sharing.

Wi-Fi is available in the lounge and the connection is stable. This is handy as the general airport one is weak. Service is good around the lounge with staff going around frequently to clear tables and refill items.

Toilets and Showers

The lounge comes with a toilet. This is something I appreciate as it will be better maintained than the general one. There is nothing memorable inside and does not come with any of the usual business amenities. It is well maintained with an attendant standing outside to constantly refresh items.

There are no showers here which kind of makes sense since this is just a short regional flight to Singapore where guests can then use the flagship SKL before their next flight.

Food and Drinks

This is the lounge highlight. I have heard good things about the food and drinks at the lounge. It is one of the best for an airline business lounge in an outstation. Let me first share about the drinks. The main selections are by the gorgeous bar in the middle. The staff are on hand to offer all sorts of alcoholic drinks. They have various wines on offer which include red, white and even champagne.

They are pouring H. Lanvin & Fils Cuvée Selection Brut. This is not always seen in an airline-operated lounge. I love the presentation where they had a red in a decanter.

They also have an extensive cocktails list and the staff are also happy to surprise you with something special. The list consists of Vodka Martini, Espresso Martini, Campari Orange, Bloody Mary, Mai Tai, Long Island, Margarita, Martini, Rising, SilverKris Sling BKK, Pina Colada, Singapore Sling and Black Russian.

The bartender was happy to please and did up a Mojito when I ordered an off-menu item. I also tried the Mai Tai and SilverKris Sling BKK. The latter tasted quite weird. There are also those Japanese beer machines that froth perfectly.

Non-alcoholic drinks are available in the self-serve fridge. I love that they had fresh young coconut on offer which was amazing. There are also TWG tea and a coffee machine.

The food buffet is solid. They have numerous hot dishes available. You can find soup, braised pork trotter rice, roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, pasta, fried fish and pad thai. There are also some cold cuts and salads. This is very good and the staff are constantly refilling the items.

There are also some ice cream for desserts.

Conclusion

This is an excellent SilverKris Lounge. It certainly lives up to its reputation. It is a very nice addition to the Star Alliance lineup in Bangkok. I love that it is a standard Star Alliance business class lounge. The lounge certainly gets busier when it is approaching a Singapore Airlines flight but overall this is still very comfortable for other guests. I prefer this lounge as compared to the Thai Royal Orchid Prestige Lounge. It is one of the better ones in the network. I can’t wait to visit more SKL while I hold KrisFlyer Gold status. In my opinion, this just ranks slightly below the Seoul SilverKris Lounge. The SKL situation is rather exciting these days with the renovations. I would love to head back to the HKG, LHR and TPE ones.
