Hello to my newest city on the list! Can I say I am a world traveller if I have not been to Sydney? This is the cream of the crop down under in this part of the world. I have been wanting to come here for the longest time ever. I have seen it so many times in countless shows and movies. It is so lovely to be able to see it in person after such a long time. Sydney Fish Market, Opera House, Harbour Bridge? I am so excited! After visiting Melbourne years ago and Perth, this is one of the last remaining main Australian destinations that remains on my list. I also did a self-drive visit to the Blue Mountains. Come check out the city with me.

Travelling to & from Sydney Airport 

There are probably two main ways of getting to and from Sydney Airport for travellers. The first one would be by the train. The AirportLink takes you to and from the city in just 20 minutes to Circular Quay and 25 minutes to Town Hall. It operates from around 4.30am to midnight. Tickets cost around 20 AUD for adults and 16 AUD for children. The easiest way is to use an Opal Card or a contactless credit card. We took an Uber instead as it was cheaper since we were in a group. It is much more cost-effective. The Uber costs around 36 to 50 AUD or so depending on the demand.

Driving in the Sydney Area

While I certainly won’t recommend doing so, I did still drive around the city on the day I rented a car. I rented a Tesla and won’t be able to share any pointers on petrol costs. Traffic is always busy and you have to be careful of the speed while in the city. Furthermore, parking is super hard to find and expensive. 6 AUD for an hour of parking in the CBD area by the streets makes it cheap by Sydney standards but expensive by our standards.

It is slightly better out of the city centre and I drove to the blue mountains and some outlet malls. You still have to pay for ridiculous parking at Blue Mountains but at least you can find lots easily. Kinda worth it since I just want to check the Blue Mountains off my list. To be honest, it is nothing that spectacular too. Outlet malls are better, most of them have free parking for 2 hours or so. I will certainly recommend you to rent an electric car with Sixt, you get free charging and we made good use of it.

Glad to check this city off my list. I rather enjoy my time in Sydney. It certainly has its charm and it is a world-class city with vibrant attractions and shopping areas. You will never be disappointed here and don’t miss this. I am really happy to be able to see the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge in person. Will I be back? Perhaps for a day or two on my way to Australia. Do take note that things are rather pricey in Sydney, even with our favourable exchange rate. With that being said, I am more fond of my time in Melbourne and prefer it to Sydney. I have perhaps checked off most of the places I wanted to visit in Australia. Adelaide and Tasmania are the two remaining places on my list.
