Take 1

Take 2

Take 3

After 2 failed attempts into travelling to Hong Kong, I am finally heading over to HK! It is kinda surreal these days. I am not expecting anything till I get onboard the plane, take off and land at Hong Kong International Airport. Once bitten, twice shy! Looking back, it has been almost 8 years since I was last in Hong Kong. I did pass by the airport when travelling to NYC back in 2019. Seeing The World In Steps is taking one step at a time! The bubble burst right before I could fly the previous time! I am looking forward to getting the elusive HK Immigration chop on my little red book. To kick start this trip series once again (you got no idea how happy I am to say this), I will be sharing my experiences travelling in a post-COVID HK, plans, flights and hotels while in Hong Kong. With this, let me introduce you to my latest Trip Series, A Quarantine Free HK!

Singapore – Hong Kong Air Travel Bubble

A THING OF THE PAST! GOODBYE!

When HK comes into mind, I can’t help but think about my two attempts to enter HK under the ATB previously. Remember those 200 passengers’ daily cap? Dedicated Flights? PCR Tests? Wow. I am so glad to say goodbye to all these. In fact, now, I will not even consider travelling to a place if there is any testing requirement. Will it really be possible this time around? Take Three!

Hong Kong Travelling Requirement

With the recent relaxation of travel requirements, heading over there is very close to the good ol days! All you require now is:

  1. Fully Vaccinated
  2. Take ART within 24 hours of departure (can be self-administered)
  3. Complete Health & Quarantine Information Declaration

The only testing requirement required is a self-ART that you do within 24 hours of departure. It is also based on the honour system. All you have to do is to keep a photo of the results for 90 days in case of checks. That to me is acceptable. In fact, my personal view is that everyone should self-test before travelling.

Flights

Flights were in hot demand after the news of the Air Travel bubble hit back then and tickets flew off the racks. Now, it is much more mooted. After all, there are more options for travelling these days than just HK having the monopoly back then. After hearing the news that we can travel quarantine free and seeing that Hong Kong was on the SQ Spontaneous Sale, I decided to grab a ticket to visit Hong Kong.

I decided on a week-long trip. I will be flying on Singapore Airlines both ways in Business Class. One of them will be on the A350 and the other on the 777. I will be keen to review the long-haul variant seat. With the spontaneous sale, I paid just 23,800 miles per sector and around 50 SGD in taxes. I value these miles at around 366 SGD.

Hotels

I have 7 nights in Hong Kong and have some exciting properties lined up. I have a couple of Media Stay invitations lined up while I am in town and will be looking forward to checking out the AKI Hong Kong – M Gallery, an upscale lifestyle hotel with a Japanese theme in HK Island. I have also been invited by the team at The Hari, a very unique luxury boutique hotel that opened right in the middle of the pandemic. This would be something special!

Being a Hilton loyalist, I also could not miss out on checking out some properties that they have in Hong Kong. Hilton has a very limited footprint in the city in comparison to Marriott which has a whopping 11 properties around the city. I will be staying at the Hilton Garden Inn Hong Kong MongKok. Conrad Hong Kong is definitely on the plan too but prices are higher than what I would like to pay. Do stay tune for my reviews!

Lounges

This will probably be the most disappointing aspect of the entire trip. The SKL in Hong Kong is still closed and guests are currently invited to the Plaza Premium Lounge. I am holding a slimmer hope that they will reopen it by the time I fly out. I am also rather keen on checking out the Chase Sapphire Lounge at Hong Kong International Airport.

I will also do another review of the Business Class SKL in Changi Airport T3. It has been quite some time since I last review it when it first open around 1.5 years back. I figure it is time for an update.

Hong Kong

As for my time in Hong Kong, besides satisfying my food cravings, I would like to check out some of the less touristy spots in the city and perhaps go hiking as well. I would love to check out Stanley Market and Sai Kung. An egg tart and roast meat journey are also definitely on the books. I will share more on this when I am writing about the city itself.
