The land of KPOP and KBBQ! I am so excited to be back in Seoul. This is not my first time in Seoul. I had travelled to South Korea as part of a group tour when I was 14. It is nice to be back after almost a decade. I am very much looking forward to my stay. I didn’t get to check out the city since I was travelling in a tour group. A twist of events took me to Seoul. I plan this rather last minute. Seoul have become very famous in recent years and there are plenty of attractions in town to check out these days too. I had about 3 full days in the city. This is certainly not enough but I did get a look at the city. Seoul would be perfect for a week and you can also do some day trips. Do note that Seoul is a sprawling city and it might not be that easy to visit numerous places in a day. Surprisingly, the restaurants also close rather early these days. Join me in my adventures. This will be a food-heavy post! You can’t travel to Seoul and not partake or overindulge in the amazing Korean cuisine.

Transportation in Seoul

Seoul has a well-established public transport system consisting mainly of the subway. There are also buses. There are plenty of rechargeable cards that you can use for taking public transport in the city. These are usually known as Tmoney cards. I find it rather confusing and complicated. Instead, I just did single-use tickets during my time in town. They are very easy and fuss-free. Just get your tickets at the vending machine. Do note that this includes a 500 won deposit that you can get back when you return the cards. I feel like it is bad planning as they can just use those machine that takes back the card when you exit the gantry. Do check out the queues, for a refund when you do not need to wait. I also took taxis quite often during my time in Seoul. They are a very good method of travelling around. It is easy to flag a taxi on the street and they are rather affordable. The cars are very new and high-tech too. If you are travelling in a group, it might be more worthwhile to take a taxi.

To travel between Incheon Airport and Seoul, the Airport Railroad (AREX) Express Train is the best way to get around. The AREX also have the commuter train which stops more often. I will recommend everyone buy their tickets online in advance for the express trains as these are limited. I learned it the hard way. They are far more comfortable than the commuter trains.

Conclusion

It is nice to be back in Seoul. The weather wasn’t that great when we were here but we managed to just miss the typhoon. It is a little too hot to sightsee and nicely sightsee. I would love to be back one day when the weather is cooler. I would also love to have more time in town and head on a day trip to check out the DMK. My time in Seoul also coincided with the World Scouts exchange in town which made the place even more crowded than it is. I have nothing but good things to say about the food in Seoul. Korean food is one of my favourite cuisines and I did not have any bad meals throughout my entire stay. Seoul is getting pricey these days and it is not as cheap as it used to be.
