No. 24, Taiwan: Shin Yeh Taipei 101

Although not bearing any Michelin Stars, Shin Yeh is one of the most try while you are in Taiwan. They are a local brand that is famed for serving up traditional Taiwanese Cuisine. It is a household name right over there. There are numerous outlet of Shin Yeh located throughout the island and in Taipei itself, however the most famous well-known one got to be the Taipei 101 outlet since it is located right up 85th Floor. This is definitely one of the highest restaurant that you can dine at in the world. At first, I was weighing up the options of whether to visit the Taipei 101 observation deck, seemingly since I am a first time visitor to Taipei. Pondering over it, I was thinking, rather than spending 600 TWD per person for a ticket up to the deck, I might as well just spend that on a meal itself. There comes Shin Yeh in mind.

No. 24, Taiwan: Day trip to Yeliu, Jiufen & Shifen

During my 5 days stay in Taipei, I also took the opportunity to check out some of the suburbs area nearby to Taipei, knowing that this could probably be the last time that I am heading to Taipei, I have to definitely check out all the sites since I am here. Similar to my time in Taichung previously, I hire a driver for the day trip. This is definitely the better plan since we are travelling in a party of 3 and with a car we could always chill off in the car from the sweating hot weather and then we do not have to wait for all the busses to get around, which runs infrequent, especially in the rural area. Furthermore, it will not be possible to hit all the places in a single day if you do not hire a car. If you need the contact you can find the details in my Taichung post.

No. 24, Taiwan: Ximending Airbnb

I knew that I would want to stay in the Ximending area during my stay in Taipei and after looking over at the hotel choices, nothing seems really interesting. Most of the chain hotels are also located out of this prime district, which makes me really wonder why is that so. Taiwan seems to be a hotspot for Airbnb, especially in the area of Taipei Main Station as well as Ximending. These are the two main spot for travellers to Taipei. Ximending is also known as the Times Square of Taiwan. It is never quiet and full of shops, restaurants and food. Ah Zhong Mian Xian is also right there in the area! I personally find booking an Airbnb extremely time-consuming since you always have to look through all the listing and then the reviews. These are really important since they could either make it or break you stay. Hopefully this will help with you.

No. 24, Taiwan: High Speed Rail in Taiwan

This time around, I shall share something special here, the High Speed Rail here in Taiwan. This is different from the commuter rail which are more extensively throughout the country and takes you to different cities. The High Speed Rail are like bullet trains that goes up to more than 300km/hr. Rule of a thumb, the HSR only travels on the west side of the island! It is a super convenient way to travel, given that a trip from the northern part of the country, Taipei, to Kaohsiung take a mere 2 hours journey. Making the whole island extremely well-connected. This present lots of time savings in comparison to the normal commuter trains.

No. 24, Taiwan: Taichung

When I made the decision to head to Taiwan, I knew that I would want to head to Taichung, the second most visited place in Taiwan. Probably the only time that I will head to Taiwan, I definitely have to check off all the places I am interested in Taiwan, Sun Moon Lake, Taichung and Taipei. Previously I mentioned that I was spending about 5 days in Taichung, arriving from the High Speed Train, I made it a journey to check out Taichung! Besides the usual, Yizhong Street, Feng Jia Night Market, I also went to places like Rainbow Village, Xinshe Castle, Zhong She Flower Market and Gaomei Wetland.

No. 24, Taiwan: Sun Moon Lake

Planning my trip to Taiwan and especially headed to Taichung, the whole trip was built around visiting the Sun Moon Lake, I feel that it is a must see, especially for a trip to Taiwan and I have to do it since I will probably not be back anymore. Taichung is known as a gateway exploring Taiwan mountainous interior, including nature areas like Sun Moon Lake, in the central mountain area of the country. This is Taiwan largest lake, where the east side of the lake resembles a sun while the west side resembles a moon, hence the name of the place. I had book a taxi to take us around the region throughout my stay in Taichung and one of the days we visited Sun Moon Lake and the surrounding. I will just like to briefly share a little on my day trip to 日月潭!

No. 24, Taiwan: Splendor Hotel Taichung

After a very efficient high-speed train journey that I took from Taoyuan to Taichung, Taiwan second largest city, I arrived here in the afternoon. It is sure a journey and I am exhausted. A full day of travelling, from the plane, to mrt, to train then finally a bus ride, I am sure happy to check in and wash up. I was staying at the Splendor Hotel Taichung, one of the top rated hotel in Taichung and if not the best. The location is impeccable as well. Right opposite the Sogo Department store and the free bus transfer to the high speed rail station stop right outside. It is also connected to a shopping centre itself, surrounded by many stores and eateries. There are numerous convenience stores around the hotel. The entrance is sure grand!
