A visit to the States can’t go without a breakfast at a classic old fashion American Diner. This is definitely the way how the locals do it. Something part and parcel of their daily life, like the Cha Can Ting in Hong Kong and the Hawker Centre and Coffee Shop that we have here in Singapore. On the day before I left New York City, I just went into any diner across the street from my hotel and that turns out to be The Comfort Diner. Certainly look like it came out from some retro hollywood movie scene it was warm inside. Pretty crowded as well! As per the norm, people in groups are sited along the walls while the solo diners choosing to sit at the bar. Then you have the waitress roaming the place to offer coffee refills to empty cups.
This has been one of the more exciting episode that I am really looking forward to. I have been wanting to share my by dining experience with you for quite some time. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to dine at the Jean Georges when I was in New York City. The lunch was also something that I have been really awaiting since making the reservation. This is my very first time dining at a Three Star Michelin Restaurant! I have always love occasionally treating myself to a fine dining experience from time to time and it has always been more cost efficient to do it overseas. Somehow I feel that fine dining back in Singapore is so much more overpriced. I was really blown away at my previous trip to the 2 star powerhouse, The Ledbury back in London, and I was expecting something even more impressive, this time around at Jean Georges! Feast with me!
I was very fortunate to be in New York City over the thanksgiving week. It actually turn out to be a total coincidental since I usually hate travelling over holidays. I hate crowds and waiting. Recently, I felt like I was in a rough patch of my life, constantly thinking why is my life like this actually and how I could help myself. It just happens when things aren’t going smoothly. Work is hectic and I am really struggling to even find them logging down these travel snippets of mine! Back to Thanksgiving in 2017 for me, it is a little special, a little unique, for the very first time in my life, I am celebrating Thanksgiving, moreover in New York City! Undoubtedly, this is the most important holiday for the Americans, where all of them make their way back to their hometown for all over the different cities they are working in. It is like the Chinese New Year in China, without saying, this weekend also creates one of the worst traffic for the roads as well as the airport. Definitely not one of the idea travelling moments for us, but I am ready to embrace the festival vibes right here in New York City!
Yeah, Yeah, Im’ma up at Brooklyn, now I’m down in Tribeca
Right next to DeNiro, But I’ll be hood forever
I’m the new Sinatra, and since I made it here
I can make it anywhere, yeah they love me everywhere
I used to cop in Harlem, all of my dominicanos
Right there up on Broadway, brought me back to that McDonald’s
I guess New York City is everyone dream, it used to be the place and the symbol for freedom and independence and it is right now still a place for anyone to express your views and ideas without fear. New York City, the Big Apple is definitely one of the most culturally diverse place that I have ever been, it is nice to see how people from all places and different background coming together in this community. I guess I can finally say that I have been in NEW YORK CITY! However, this is also one of the most touristy place in the world, and, it is definitely not a cheap place to travel! New York City actually consists of 5 main borough, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. Personally I guess most of the people would want to stay in Manhattan or Brooklyn. Although everywhere is well connected by the Subway, which is also the best way to get around town. I choose Manhattan since it was close to the action and then of course it is also nearer to everywhere in town. I was with my parents so cutting down on the travels is much better. I chance upon The Westin New York Grand Central which is right smack in 42 St, near the Grand Central Station!
Welcome to another series of my flying! This time around I am continuing my journey around the world and flying to the United States of America on Singapore Airlines in the Suites. The Frankfurt to New York City 5th Freedom route is definitely one of the best way to cross the atlantic. The 8 hours flight was definitely too fast! Especially when you are in the Suites. I am fortunate to be able to do this way. A slight disclaimer, I may have fall asleep for 3 to 4 hours or so on the flight as well. I was actually doing this leg of the journey as part of a single ticket that I first flew on back two months ago, where the first leg took me from Singapore to Frankfurt. All in all, I paid 120,000 Miles and about 400 SGD in tax, this is definitely the way to fly!
A great Star Alliance alternative will be the chic Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge that is nearby. If you are travelling with a Star Alliance ticket or a holder of a member frequent flyer program, this lounge might be a good choice in comparison to the Lufthansa offerings. The Maple Leaf Lounge is on the second level as well, located near the Mcdonalds. The lounge opens as well at 6am. I was there bright and early. It is definitely one of the better moments for me to check out the lounge fresh and bright. Definitely the perfect moment as well for me to snap all the pictures while the crowd isn’t around. This is a good offering in comparison to the frequent overcrowded lufthansa lounges. I love that the Maple Leaf Lounge have such a chic exterior and entrance.
Nothing feels better than a hot shower after hoboing at the Airport overnight sleeping on a hard bench! That is my exact thoughts when I was in the Lufthansa Senator Lounge in Frankfurt Terminal 1. A little recap on my itinerary, on the previous night, I arrived from Bologna on Air France with a long transit in Paris. What a day of travelling it had been. I was expecting to make my way to the transit area in Terminal 1 after dropping off my bag with Singapore Airlines, but it turned out that the check in counters were closed for the night. That means Seeing The World In Steps spend its first night in an airport! It was surely different seeing one of the busiest airport in Europe turning into such a quiet place. At 5am, I managed to be the first to check in my bags and got the golden suites ticket printed and then immediately rush to the Lufthansa Senator Lounge for a much needed shower!
